Topic: Solidoodle 3? With issues

First of all, treat me as a total noob because I am not sure if I have a SD2 or SD3 printer - will post a pic of the main board.
The problem is that I used the printer several years ago a few times with several issues about first layer detaching before the build can continue, so basically gave up and in the meantime sold the computer that the original sw was on.
So recently I thought I would try to get it goiung again and found a few different programs.
Also, couldn't be sure if was a 2 or 3 (I believe a 3) see pic.
So, when I tried each program, the bed didn't heat up and I had no movement on the table or x-y head.
I have several more pics if needed.
Just start with the basics - is this a SD2 or 3?
What program should I download?
Is it worth messing with this or should I offer it for sale for whatever its worth?
(This may take a bit of back and forth)
Kronikabuse from chatroom said he might be able to help....

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

The only way for us to tell between SD2 or 3 is for you to measure the bed.
SD2 6”x6”
SD3 8”x8”
They otherwise looked the same and shared the same components and board.  That is a Sanguinololu Board so I’d guess based on that and the serial number.  It was purchased June - August of 2013?
Check the WIKI http://www.soliwiki.com/Official_Solido … e_Download
You want Repetier Host with Slic3r as a software package.  Sounds like you need a driver and that is probably somewhere in the WIKI also.  If not let us know

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

i am going to guess it is an SD2 due to the size.. but as wardjr said, bed size is the key determining factor

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1
Printit Industries Beta Tester - Horizon H1

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

Thanks for the info, the bed is 8" x 8" so it is a SD3
I will download a new Repetier Host and Slic3r, and see where that goes....

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

You’ll need a driver https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Then ask Heartless very nicely to walk you through setting up RH and Slic3r.  She is by far the most qualified person around to help in that regard.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

OK, downloaded fresh Repetier Host and installed fine
Turned on printer - lights come on, extruder fan comes on
Connected USB
Not sure if its the correct USB port, but selected 3
Hit "connect" on Repetier
Loaded test block & positioned on bed
Seems to have no control connection?
No heat on bed or extruder, cannot move print head under manual controls

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

Look at device manager and ensure the COM port.  As is it sounds like it’s connected as a Virtual Printer

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

If you are not seeing it connected in Device Manager.  You probably don’t have the driver installed.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

It is showing an active USB (Com 3) in Device mgr, and when I disconnect the USB from the printer, USB3 is removed from Dev Mgr, shows up again when I re-connect....http://soliforum.com/i/?Jt3LQxZ.png

I did install the driver as suggested...

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

Yeah we need one of the Windows 10 users to jump in. There was something funky that had to be done within RH to get things to communicate properly.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

OK, thought the Win10 driver was the thing...

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

Post a screenshot of each tab in RH.  Maybe you’ll jog my memory.  I though there was something like “connect on reset” that needed to be checked.  I am just not a Win 10 user so do not know.  If you were on Win7 I’d have you printing by now.  There may be some setting within Win 10 that we’re missing also.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

I believe he has to have Ping Pong Communication set. Win 10 needs to know the device is ready before it sends data.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

Just to make sure, you are clicking the connect button over on the top left of RH right? Is there any thing showing in the terminal window when you do?

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

There must be someone on this forum who is running SD3 with Win10?

I am pretty sure Heartless does, but is not usually on until late or in the AM hours.

Re: Solidoodle 3? With issues

My SD is only a 2, but it's approaching 6 years old.  I had all kinds of trouble after reinstalling Win 10 after a bout with a rootkit virus.  Com4 was no longer available.  Had the same problems you do with trying to use auto com and com3.  RH gui was OK, but no commands worked.  Now for some reason known only to Bill Gates & crew com4 became available - selected it in Printer Settings - and all is now good.

Just a thought

I also run the same SD on an IMac - but we don't want to go there.....
