Topic: my project so far

at the moment i have a project that requires mounting a lens to a 70mm tube. I have managed to print a male thread in two parts that I have glued together shown in the picture. The next step is to create the female thread. I cant think how I could print this out. I need the female thread to be on the inside of a 70mm internal diameter tube. The tube has an wall thickness of 2mm making it 74mm outside diameter. I have tried using skeinforge to create support material but it doesnt get it right. How would you guys try to print this?

Re: my project so far

Print your threads as one piece in .1mm with the threads parallel to the bed.  There is no reason I can see to split this part into two separate pieces.  I have had a ton of success printing threads like this.

Keep in mind I use Repetier host and the fan mod.

Re: my project so far

These threads print on a stock SD2 with no mods at all and .3mm profile with Skeinforge.  Try it I think you'll be surprised what the SD's can do.

Re: my project so far

ok I think there must be a problem with my model then as I have tried similar prints like this and it works fine, im pretty useless at modelling and still learning sketchup. Is there something wrong with this? As when I slice it with either skeinforge or slicer it doesn't show the threads and makes a mess of the inside of the tube.

I can only see the start of a thread at the top and no where else. The thread is also only a 2D curved surface, not a 3D solid.

Repetier host views gcode fine for most.

Re: my project so far

ok still having trouble with this thread thing haha, ive made what I think is a solid model, looks ok in netfabb and stl viewer but when it comes to slicing its fills in the center of my tube where the thread is.
