Topic: Hi I am here because I cannot get this thing to work!

Hi,
I have spent 3 weeks (yes I am an idiot) trying to get this thing to work. Tried the eighty zillion so called easy steps to level, calibrate etc etc... all I get is a mess of crap every print. It cannot even do a straight line.
I had lots of trouble installing software, particularly the drivers, so I thought perhaps that I did something wrong, but no, I followed the instructions to a T. I always - ALWAYS get skein forge errors - the instructions show a different set up to what I have (the same as in most of the videos), only things don't seem to work as easily as in the videos, I press a button and it might or might not work. So software definitely might be an issue, but as I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 14 times already, and on each occasion it tells me everything is fine. Maybe it doesn't like windows xp? Do I need masses of ram or something?
Has anyone else had this level of difficulty? Is there another fifty million steps to get this to work I have to follow from somewhere?

Well it sounds like you are communicating with the printer? so that's one major hurdle out of the way smile as windows has quite a few problems with the hardware interface. It shouldn't take huge amounts of ram unless you are trying to slice some file that is enormous (>1-2 gigs) do you have a camera to take pics or vids? as this would make troubleshooting way easier smile if you could post pics of what results you are getting from the printer. Just give us a detailed description of what you are doing or trying to do and what the results are.. there are plenty of knowledgeable people on here form the hardware and software side I am sure we can get you up and running without too much pain.

One suggestion is to start using Repetier Host which is much more user friendly than Skeinforge.

Instructions from solidoodle to set up Repetier host: http://www.solidoodle.com/wp-content/up … ctions.zip

You say that all you are getting is a mess of crap when you try to print anything. It sounds like you have the extruder to far from the bed (which means you need to adjust your z-offset) but if you could post some pictures of what you are getting that would help.
