Topic: Renders fine in XYZware, but clicking print corrupts it.

Hey there,
I'm new to the XYZ DaVinci 3D Printer and have been having an issue with models with relatively complex vertices.

When I import the STL file in the XYZware software, it appears to render as it should. After I click "Print", it does a preparation with "Object slicing" and then shows a completely corrupt render of what it's going to print.

I'm simply trying to print this 3D cube that I've attached. I made it first using AutoCAD, a simple 5x5 cube divided into 1x1 cubes. I then imported this into 3ds Max and applied a "Renderable Spline" to the Modifier List to give the wireframe a thickness.

Here's what it looks like inside XYZware before clicking print:

And here's what it looks like after clicking print:

Any tips? I was thinking maybe it wasn't thick enough or there were too many sides specified in the "Renderable Spline", but that didn't help.

I've read that modifying the printer for Slic3r may be in my best interest, but I'm not sure if that is relevant to this situation.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Well lets start with the basics, what thickness are the structures in the cube, the dimensions of the cube, and the layer/resolution you have chosen to print at?

I took the liberty of slicing it in Repetier Host and this is what I got.

It looks like there are parts missing or not connected in your real model so they don't get sliced. it only only shows three to four layers per horizontal section which is way to thin to print. That is way to thin and in my opinion unprintable. I would suggest redoing it but making the horizontals and verticals at least 3 mm, I would also suggest signing up with netfabb print cloud and running it through there. They will fix it if it can be fixed for printing. it is free, just requires a Microsoft account.

I have a feeling netfabb will reject it as the thickness of each section is just too thin.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Renders fine in XYZware, but clicking print corrupts it.

Thanks very much for your reply. I tried the Microsoft service and it appears to have fixed it! Printing right now...

Also thanks for mentioning Repetier Host, I'll be sure to double-check my work with that tool.
As far as dimensions, I had been fiddling with different settings, but right now it's printing 44.28 x 44.28 x 44.15 with a layer height of .3

This still may be too small and might need to scale it, but from what I'm seeing in the rendering view it appears to be great.
Will take some time to get this printed, but everything seems fine so far. Much appreciated.

edit: Done! It came out much better than I expected, considering the thickness is about the size of a toothpick. It did kinda screw up at the top (or bottom in the pic below) because it got stuck on the printer head and dragged around, but either way I'm very impressed with the results:

Looks like you need to adjust the gap between the nozzle and bed.
