Re: Printing Showcase

I printed a landing craft from Pack 3, then painted and weathered it a bit.  I think the Sherman tank is from Pack 1.  I printed these at 200% scale, so they'll go with my Flames of War stuff.  I'm always impressed by the detail of these models.

I didn't do much post-print finishing; mostly just cut away the support material, then paint.  Certainly good enough for gaming purposes.  I'm going to do some surface sanding and acetone vapor on some other subjects, to see how fine of a finish I can achieve.

Re: Printing Showcase

looks good. I been doing several including those in N scale 1/160 which is just 25% bigger than what they come scaled. even the tiny Schwimwagon, halftrack bike etc print very well with lots of detail. I like the Gator LTV4 also done a GPA/seep today plus most the smaller vehicles and Dodge ambulance also found another guy doing similar good designs on muscle cars etc on Thingaverse but his have been made in different scales like O scale and even 1/16 scale been trying to talk him into more vehicles from late 1940s thru late 1970s American makers of cars, Trucks etc.

Re: Printing Showcase

Here's my latest attempt with the Bergman armor collection.  I wanted to see how refined I could make the finished print, and how close I could come to a commercially produced wargame miniature.  As usual, I printed this to 200% scale to fit with my Flames of War miniatures.

I did some mild acetone smoothing, then some finish sanding.  After the base coat and camouflage, I did some weathering (wash) and dry-brushing.  There's so much detail on these models that you can't even see until you get some paint on them.  Then when weathering, even more details emerge.

This guy puts a lot of effort into these objects.

Re: Printing Showcase

nice. yes they are impressive. like by a professional model making company. I see you noticed the support material in the tracks at that scale and removed it. the smaller scales its very easy to over look unless you saw stl file in netfab and know what should show. I did a King Tiger in 1/160 scale (calculating multiplier from 1/200 scale he makes them in. meaning yours are 1/100) the detail I get is amazing for the size print on an SD2. I have done some of the small models using .1mm slicer profile using similar settings to his recommended .2mm settings. so I get better detail and solid finish. and yes many details are not noticeable till carefully cleaned and painted, and still need a 10x loupe to see on scales I print.

Re: Printing Showcase

Here's some of my projects for Christmas decorations.  The wife painted the flat ornaments, and I painted the spherical one.

The sphere, when printed at 100% scale and .1mm resolution, is an 18-hour print.

Re: Printing Showcase

How did you paint them knowack?  I'm doing my first trials with painting prints and it's going terrible.  I've got a small model air brush I'm going to try next.

Bowden SD3, Rumba, E3D hotend, Mk5 with RtRyder changes, Direct drive Y axis and bearings, GT2 pulleys and braided fishing line, Lawsy linear bearing conversion, M3 Z screw.

Yes.

I've included a photo of the types of paint I use.  All of them are acrylics, which clean up with warm water, and work well with plastics; I've used them on ABS and PLA with success.  I've even used acrylic paint on ABS after its been smoothed with acetone vapor.

The larger bottle is 'craft' paint you can get at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.  There are different brands: Ceramcoat, Americana, Delta, Folk Art; they seem to work equally well.  I apply these with a brush.  I haven't tried airbrushing them, it would require considerable thinning with acrylic thinner.

The smaller bottles are more of a 'hobby' paint; the Tamiya is intended for plastic model kits, and the Vallejo is geared toward wargame figures and tabletop miniatures.  I use brushes and airbrush on both.  I cannot think of a reason Testors acrylic wouldn't work equally as well, I just don't have any in my arsenal at the moment.

The tanks in post #29 were hand-brushed with the Tamiya and Vallejo, the Tiger in #54 was mostly airbrushed with the two paints; details like the treads, roadwheels, and towing cables were hand-brushed.

When building plastic scale models, I switched from enamels to acrylics years ago, so I cannot comment on how well the enamels do with ABS or PLA.
