Topic: Error: Extruder switched off. MINTEMP triggered

I receive this message intermittently when printing.  I thought it might be a loose connection to the Thermistor, but I've checked/reconnected all connections to no avail.

Has anyone had a similar experience?  Any ideas? Could it be a failing Thermistor?

This problem emerged after a particularly long print (~8 hrs).  Not sure if that's relevant.

Could be a failing thermistor.  It also could be the physical proximity to the hot end itself.  It is attached to the hot end with kapton tape, you may want to pull the insulator down and have a look.  Make sure the thermistor is making good solid contact with the hot end.

Re: Error: Extruder switched off. MINTEMP triggered

After replacing the hot end assembly, the problem persisted, implying the problem is not with the thermistor or its placement on the extruder hot end.

The temperature reading immediately before the problem occurs is nowhere close to the minimum temperature.  I have tried all the connections back to the board with no luck.  I have attached a pic the log of the last print that shows the temps leading up to the error.

I'm stumped.  The only clue is that the temp reading seems to fluctuate outside the norm on longer movements on the y-axis.  The printer fully completed a smaller print (1.5"x 1.5") but quickly failed while building the raft on a larger print (4.5"x 4.5").

If anyone has any ideas, I would sure appreciate it.

Re: Error: Extruder switched off. MINTEMP triggered

It sounds like the wires have failed rather than the connection. I am not home yet, but I will post a picture later. You can test for continuity between the J wire on the top left? or right of the board and the connection to the thermistor at the extruder (just follow which one goes to the extruder through the wire bundle) I can't remember for sure which side it is, but I had to replace mine recently.  If the connections are good and the reading is fluctuating wildly, like mostly around 195 but dropping off significantly sporadically and quickly, you almost surely have wires failing. The only other option is the board, but that is much less likely. I will do a write up this weekend on replacing the thermistor wire if you can't figure it out before then.

You can confirm the thermistor is ok by connecting it directly to the board and testing that it is giving readings at room temp and raising if you heat it up.

I think you're on the right track, Jooshs.  I disassembled and re-assembled (again) all the connections between the thermistor and the board.  Must've missed something the first.

Temps now seem to be more consistent (+/- 1) and haven't received the MINTEMP error in 40 minutes of printing on a large print.

Hopefully we've reached resolution.  Thanks for the comment.
