Topic: Printing Help

Hello Guys,

I just got my Solidoodle 2 yesterday, and the first print i tried using Pronterface to print with the default setting was the bottle opener attached.

However the output was nothing as promised. anyone know what went wrong with my printer?

Thanks!

Re: Printing Help

Hi!

You have some calibration to to, both on the first z layer hight, and feed-rate I think.
It what temp are you running/material?

Have a look at Ians excellent blog for how to calibrate these settings.

Re: Printing Help

Looks like your bed is not level this should be done before any other calibration. link--> wiki dot solidoodle dot com slash leveling-the-print-bed <--- hope this helps, it is amazing what small differences make in the final appearances.

forum software won't let me put in /'s or .'s   :-((((

Re: Printing Help

I am running ABS Material at 200 degree for the extruder and 85 degree for the bed.

Will you guys recommend to adjust the z offset or to level the bed instead?

Re: Printing Help

z offset screw is a coarse adjustment.  Fine adjustments are made with the 3 leveling screws on the bed  ; 2 front, 1 rear.  Use the manual controls to move the head around to all the corners and move the screws to raise/lower it.  Make sure the bed is heated so you don't have to factor heat expansion/contraction.

And even if it's a coarse print, print the thumbscrews (http://www.soliforum.com/topic/242/thum … m-beneath/) and superglue them to the underside of the screws under the bed.  Makes adjusting a pre-heated bed so much easier.

Re: Printing Help

Hello guys,

I am still having some issues sad used the paper method to set the Z offset as a corse adjustment. however the print results i got is still the same as the previous round. The bed was set to about 0.3mm height between the nozzle and bed.

Realised that in the attached file, the bottle opener suppose to have a radius on the body, however the machine printed it as a straight line.

Anyone can advice what i should do next?

thanks!!

Re: Printing Help

Use paper method to adjust the leveling screws until the nozzle is the same distance from the bed at each point.  Then watch the first layer and adjust the Z screw until it looks right - http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … st-layers/

Re: Printing Help

Hello Ian,

Yup i just did the leveling at each point. I tried to print a simpler object, the STL file is attached

However i realised that when the printer prints the file, it was orginally design to be a circle, the printer prints it in a rectangle shape. anyone know what could have been wrong?

thanks!

Re: Printing Help

Is there any way you can post a video, maybe a youtube link?  There is something very wrong.  The giant blobs at the ends of the raft make it look like the printer is standing still for awhile when it should be moving on Y, as if you have something like a few mm worth of backlash.  Are the belts tight?  Are the motors making grinding noises at each end of the raft lines?

Re: Printing Help

Thanks Ian, I will try tensioning the belt.

Will post a video if there is a problem!
