Re: Filament Winder
I just posted my files at thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:206935
The ink I used was from a brazilian store: http://translate.google.com/translate?h … Solda.html

Everything is ready to go, the only holdup is the electronics. I'm still waiting for a final timeline on them, but it will probably be about a month.
How's it going? It's been about a month, so I figure it's time to ask...
I enjoy being able to extrude filament, but the logistics of keeping that sufficient space clear of interference (with 3 kids, cats, etc.) are daunting - every time I run it, the filament ends up bumped/poked/pulled. So I'm really looking forward to setting up the winder, so the setup can be more self-contained, so I can produce real quantities of filament.
Help me Ian, you are my only hope! :-)
Laser cut stuff is finishing this weekend, and the electronics have finished assembly and QA in China. They said they would ship Thurs but I haven't heard. I figure it should be within a day or so. From there it is a matter of finishing the kit packing and shipping everything to Filastruder Towers. Or would that be the Filastruderplex?
I hope you have sufficient quantities ordered to not sell out in minutes like the original Kickstarter...
I'd hate to miss out as this is one of the things I've been waiting for...
By my estimates, the first batch will last at least 3-4 weeks.
Any price range yet?? I'm waiting for one to really start using my filastruder.

Sounds good, count me in...

Me, too! Are you taking pre-orders? :-)
So, will this be a Kickstarter, or a "normal product"?

No preorders - only orders once it is ready to ship. Not Kickstarter - Ian's done it all himself without raising funding first. Pretty cool.
That's good to hear, I'm getting tired of kickstarters and all their delays, Yours is a exception Tim, The first kickstarter I've had that shipped on time.
Hey everyone I was looking around Kickstarter and ran across this cool project for a filament winder that someone (who is not acquainted with me) posted. You should check it out and see if you think it is as awesome as I do. I can't provide the link because I just registered today at this forum (and a dozen others) because I wanted everyone to know about this cool Kickstarter project I found by chance.

I feel like if the needed goal is enough to fit on a credit card or a small unsecured loan you should take the risk of non-completion on yourself rather than a bunch of strangers who think they are making preorders in a store.
Any news on this, I would be willing to buy the electronics.
Hey Ian, what cool project for filament winder? The only one I saw was the one to make carbon fiber tubes.
I saw that at Maker Faire and it definitely was cool but it makes three foot long windings.
Ralph
That was just a jab at the typical underhanded Kickstarter promotion that happens on the forums.
The FilaWinder will be available for sale starting tomorrow 1/1 at 12pmEST. The lead time is one week for working out some last shipping details. The page is online now at http://www.filastruder.com/products/filawinder. Tim has made a promo code for free shipping to the US on the winder - FilaWinderFreeShipping.
Nice, hopefully shipping to Canada won't be to bad.
I'm curious what exactly is and what exactly is not included in the kit. For example is the nano included?

Glad to see you got it released ian.... sadly i will not be buying any of the finalized winders. Price to benefit ratio is just too far off. I'll stick with my beta winder and hand winding my other extruders until a decent cheap clone pops up.

Mine came with everything except a base board to mount everything to and some kapton tape to mount the thermistor. I needed a few extra washers to make everything fit properly, but that's not unexpected.

Hi Tim,
I see the page also links to the filament width sensor that you said you were getting a test on of a while (IIRC). Did you ever get to trying it out, it would be great if you were able to stock those as well if they work. I see people seem to be buying direct form "flipper" via Thingiverse, but that's not so great for purchasing...
@Ian: Good job, looking forward to assembling a complete system at last.
Thanks,
Craig
It (the filament width sensor) is on the to-do list...
I had his board made by OSHPark, but I haven't ordered up the components to put it together yet. I'd also like to try out interfacing with a thickness gauge, but all of that has been waiting until I get all of the stuff done for the launch.

Both,
Thanks, keep up the good work!!!

i wanted to design something that do a Reciprocating Motion without having an arduino to move a motor back and ford.
This pendulum require a motor with a constant speed to winder your filament on a organize way
please enjoy. if anyone wants to do a modification i did uploaded the solidworks files.
