Topic: Strange Flow-Rate

I'm using Repetier Host and Slic3r

To start of with, I used the settings Ian suggested and noticed that I had to much flow going out from the extruder.

So I thought I needed a calibration, did that as well.

Attached a picture of when it was dialed in

So what's the problem, right!!!??

It's the actual settings I came to have:

Filament Settings
Diameter 2.1
Exctrusion multiplyer 0.82

That's weired right??

Including my config if someone has the brains to figure out what I missed ...

Re: Strange Flow-Rate

If it works, it works. Though the filament diameter seems.... bad. Is it really 2.1mm? Or are you compensating something with the filament diameter setting?

Re: Strange Flow-Rate

It's not too weird, other than 1.75 filament that averages at 2.1.  Extrusion Multiplier of 1 is based on theoretical calculations.  The actual results are affected by the hardness of the filament and how much the teeth of the gear bites into it, compressing it.  They generally recommend a higher multiplier for PLA because it is harder than ABS.  I generally have mine set to .92.  When you get filament from a different supplier, it's a good idea to do another flow check, because it might require a slightly different multiplier.

Re: Strange Flow-Rate

Well, the results are the same for the ABS filament I got from solidoodle and the one from fabber-parts.de

If someone can prove to me that they have similar settings ...

Otherwise I find it strange that its repetivly called for to measure your filament if you "suppose" to set it at 2.1 and be done with it.

Sorry but I can't really agree

Re: Strange Flow-Rate

I'm not sure where you got the 2.1, unless that is the average diameter of your filament measured at several points with a caliper.  Once you've measured your filament, you can set that measurement and be done with it, until you bring in filament of a different kind (PLA) or from a different supplier.  I believe  Fabber.de is carrying Repraper filament (they said so at the RepRap forum).  The Repraper spool I have from them ranges from about 1.63 to 1.73.

In your config you have "Generate Extra Perimeters When Needed" checked.  In my experience, that causes Slic3r to add an extra perimeter in here and there when you are trying to print a single thread wall.  If that was on while you were doing the flow rate test, it could give you a thicker wall and make you think the flow was too high.

Re: Strange Flow-Rate

Fist ... I used the 2.1 diameter since the Extrusion multiplier would be ridiculously low if I did not.

About the "Generate Extra Perimeters When Needed", i'm completely sure that it was off.
I also observed the print as it was going, and yes, it was doing only one circle (box) before another z-step.
