40MM Fan Duct for Solidoodle Hotend

You'll have to excuse this hacked together version of the one I made for myself. I wanted to get something out there that was universal for 40MM x anything Fans. I borrowed the fan mount idea from Ichibey http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:110947 and the fan duct was designed after Ian's for the original Jigsaw with a couple changes. The hotend hole is enlarged to keep the sides from melting (that seemed to be a common problem for me and a couple others). I made mine a lot lower profile.

One issue that I still have is that this doesn't just cool the filament coming out of the nozzle. It creates a large pocket of air which works extremely well for me, but it might not be ideal for others. I am not planning on posting this to thingiverse since I am not 100 percent happy with it. If anyone wants to mess around with the original files let me know. For now, this should get you moving until another mount comes out that you like.

The pictured fan is my prototype for my printrbot hotend. It is ugly and was printed at 180mm/s so don't judge but this is pretty much what it looks like.

Nice job.

I'm part way through a modular fan mount system that will hopefully adapt to the E3D hot end. but I'm having trouble getting it as neat as I would like.

I like how you used the new mk5 mount system but from the bottom, does it hold firmly?

Re: MK5 - Accessories - (Level 1 - Novice Consumer)

The mounts work great upside down. I had a few versions that clipped around the top but they were kinda bulky. This is simple and clean. I can't wait to see what you come up with... My e3d is almost here.

It's on its way

Re: MK5 - Accessories - (Level 1 - Novice Consumer)

Like Adrian mentioned, since it is long, it makes sense to mount something underneath the extruder carriage, but people may not like that.

You guys are awesome keep up the cool ideas guys this is turning into a whole other fun hobby aside from actually making parts.

Re: MK5 - Accessories - (Level 1 - Novice Consumer)

Here are pictures of the finished product. Make sure to print it slow with your best non brittle filament. The clips are the same as MK5 clips. I haven't had any issues with them breaking... yet. Have glue on stand by just in case.

Is that for a flat-backed indicator?  (Mine has a lug ...)

This might not work... how far does the lug stick out?

Looks like 10mm (Mitutoyo 543-252, for the record).  But I now see your SU file above, so I should be able to adjust that.
Many thanks!

Dial Gauge Holder for use with E3D Nozzle Heights and to allow my analogue gauge (one place I insist on dials still... so you can actually watch deflection smile ) and its mounting lug to clear the extruder once lowered. Printed with support due to the offset on the extension piece:

If you have a similar gauge, but just want a normal height... you can trim the lower part of the extension back by 16mm's...

Do you have the original file for the 40mm fan mount? I would like to reinforce the clips. I keep breaking them off.

To get this printable you have to do some fun things but here is the SKP file I used.

Holder for the AccuRemote digital indicator. Holder has small knobs to clip onto the ring in the back for a snug hold. Completed this a couple days ago and only used it once. Holds indicator snug and fits over my E3D hotend perfectly. There is a little play where it clips onto the MK5. Not sure if the clips can be any better, may need to add a clip onto the top screw hole.

J-Head style Universal Dial Indicator mount for all Jigsaw Replacement Designs. This isn't as handy as using the pop-on/pop-off accessory mount, however, this can be used with all the designs. The later versions with the quick change hotend feature make this a joy to use.

This is offset in the Z+ so that it will work with the longer E3d and Printrbot hotends. This is worth having one in your spare parts bin as a backup.

Note: After you print, there is a single wall support that needs to be removed (should peel off) to reveal the mounting point.

Re: MK5 - Accessories - (Level 1 - Novice Consumer)

MK5 Under - Carriage Mount for 40x40x10mm Fan (Only mounts using Lawsy's carriage replacement)

This is a quick simple fan mount that I put together for the MK5. I am using this style because I didn't have enough room to make a fan with a duct. This seems to work really well but after not having a fan for a while, I'll use just about anything. tongue

There isn't a lot to this mount. It just uses 2 M3 screws for each side of the mount. I used 10 mm for the screws in the carriage and 15mm for the screws in the fan.

http://2n2r5.com/pictures/printer/show-n-tell/fan_desparation.jpg

This fan position works almost too well at cooling the prints. I had to mess with my cooling settings a bit. Here is what I ended up with that works really well for me.

Re: MK5 - Accessories - (Level 1 - Novice Consumer)

OK. I know people say fans are very important. Can you all yell at me...Are they actually that important? Is it only needed for PLA? I'm running ABS at 230Celsius without a problem. I suppose perhaps I could benefit from a fan but even bridging tends to work pretty well.

Print the attached file at .3mm layer height. It is the type of print that really benefits from a fan. Try to thread the nut on the bolt when you get done. You might not have any issues at all, in which case, you wouldn't benefit too much from a fan.
