Topic: Inside a Dimension printer

This is an old thread, but I just heard about it.  It's a detailed look inside how a Stratasys Dimension printer works, very interesting.   It uses a single motor and gear to run two nozzles.  There is an idler for each nozzle on either side of the gear, and the gear gets pushed against the idler for the nozzle in use.

wow. I worked with a Dimension for 3 years and never noticed those air nozzles.  I remember that every time I would open one it would be like a convection oven inside.

Thanks Ian, now my mind is spinning about how many things can be added to the SD.

Interesting link, thanks Ian.

Not finished reading it yet but it seems that it uses the hot air ducts instead of a heated bed?

I like the blade of air blowing across the level of the nozzle.  I guess 70C is the sweet spot, because blowing 60C will delaminate your print.  The hot ends are also long metal tubes, with no insulator.  Instead they are cooled by one of those ducts.  There are a couple of links to manuals in that thread including the smoothing station.  I'm looking forward to getting a chance to read those.

I wonder if this is why they print so slow.
