Hang out at forums.reprap.org. Those guys have been at this way longer than anyone here, it's worth keeping up with.
This is pretty neat.

If they would of had these tools + 3d printer in my classrooms I think I would of paid a lot more attention in my math classes.
Interesting magazine, thanks for the link.
CoffeeSCad looks really interesting, I guess I will look into that.
I will also give CURA a try as soon as my printer is working again.

A word of warning if using Cura on a Mac, if running OSX 10.7.x don't install Cura version 12.12 (the newest) it won't run. You have to run one version behind v12.11

Thanks for the advice! I'm running 10.8.x on the MacBook Air I use to control my Solidoodle. Does the current version of Cura work with that or should I also use an older one?

Since your on 10.8 you can use the newest version. I don't have my printer yet, but from what I understand is you create the G-Code then load it up in Repetier and print from there, just like with KISSlicer. So far I am liking KISSlicer and Skeinforge the best, at least from what I can see in the preview on the screen.
I have had good result with KISSlicer.
I just configured KISSlicer 2 days ago and I am in love with it.
I don't like how the KISSlicer gcode gets previewed in Repetier. At least for me it's always somewhere far under the 0 z-height. It prints fine though. I also don't like how to create the print profiles in KISSlicer. It's easier in Slic3r.
Personally I like how neat Slic3r is integrated in Repetier. I'd wish there would be KISSlicer and Cura integration too.

Ya, I have said that before and didn't get a great response. KISSlicer does have problems with some parts, just like all of them do. So far the one with the least problems is Skeinforge but its the slowest and way too many things to play with settings wise.
I need my printer to actually do the prints with the setting I made for all the slicers. Want to compare actual print quality and time. There can be quite a difference in printing time and I don't understand how since I am using the same speeds on the 0.3mm layer height ones.

It is understandable that the Slicers would have issues. Have you ever seen the source code for these things? O_o
