Topic: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

Wonder if other companies will start taking a similar approach.

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

I got sent this earlier from a buddy. So I went over to thingiverse and searched lumia and now I see why... no cases for any lumia by anyone!  Now I want to know how many people have a Lumia 820 and a 3D printer.

I had 3 people email this article to me from different sources.  Nokia has a good publicist, haha.

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

Someone put it up on thingiverse, surprised it wasn't Nokia!

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

I have a 820 and gave it a go and seemed to work more of an issue with being the first print not being a bat symbol but I was surprised how well it worked. I didn't do the buttons just the back plate.

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

Not sure if adding it as an attachment is the best way to upload it but Ill give it a try(didn't work)? Like I said it was my first non batman logo and Im still only just starting to play with it and it was before I leveled the bed and worked out the X preassure.

When I try put in link to pic I get.

You have to have a min of like 5 posts before you can upload pics or link anything.

Not that many which is sad. I'm actually a proud Lumia guy.

BATMAN, it looks like you need to calibrate your extruder.  From the picture it looks like it is putting out more filament then it should be.

Perhaps increase retract?

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

I have tried to calibrate the Z but I don't know how to control how much filament or what the retract is.

After calibrating the Z it dosn't appear to have fixed much.

Ill see what I can find out about retract and filament flow and try again allother prints look ok its just this one that seems so out also there apears to be acouple of new printe for the 820 on thingiverse maybe they have changed it a little.

Re: Nokia lets you 3D print your own case

the problem with your print is mainly the file...it looks like it is just curved enough that your printing in midair once you get about halfway out form the center... I will bet this case looks great printed in a laser sintering printer but to make it print in plastic extrusion you will have to turn support and that won't be pretty...

To me it looks like to much filament is being used.

that's Ian's YouTube video for calibrating the filament.  Also did you measure your filament?  That can make a difference on your prints too.
