Re: Hacking the Duo 2.0A to print 3rd party filament??

Does anyone know how to turn off the fan during a print using Slic3r and my duo with the Repetier firmware? I go to print configuration before I slice and go to the cooling settings and uncheck the auto cooling box and then the description under it says "Fan will be turned off". But when I save those settings and use them for a print the fan keeps running.

That fan is not connected to a controlled line, it is connected directly to power as you can tell by just turning the machine on. That fan also has to be on as it keeps your extruders heat break cool and keeps the filament from swelling and jamming.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Gotcha, so this isn't one of those fans that blows air to the nozzle then. I'm just in a battle against cracking with abs and right now. I guess I gotta keep cranking up the heat a little by little until I get good layer adhesion.

Yeah i guess ya right there is now ay im going to send this printer back for repairs if needed ... I look forward to the How-To-Hack 2.0 update smile

Re: Hacking the Duo 2.0A to print 3rd party filament??

Sunra, the updated post I will be making won't really focus on the actual hacking process so much as it will focus on the post-hacking process. The link provided earlier in this thread by Dominick (https://github.com/luc-github/Repetier-Firmware-0.92) is quite sufficient to walk any beginner through the process of flashing his DaVinci. There's also a link towards the bottom of that writeup that you can follow to youtube in order to watch the exact process being done on a 1.0. All you need to do differently for the 2.0 is jump the J37 pins on the board, and change a few 0's to 2's or 3's in the line of code generated by the Arduino software before you actually tell it to flash your printer (the GitHub link explains how to do this thoroughly so no worries, it's very easy).

The post I will be writing soon will focus on what to do after you have successfully flashed it. I aim to answer questions like the following:

How do I setup/configure my 2.0 Duo for use with Repetier Host?
How do I print using the Repetier Host?
What to look for in my first print after the Repetier Flash?

These are only a few of the things I will be going over. Their all things I encountered when starting to use Repetier and Slic3r, stuff that will e extremely useful to people who have never used anything other than the XYZware with their printer.

I think you will find it very useful Sunra, especially if you ever plan to flash your Duo smile

Sounds great Pabloidiaz ... I will wait and read your post and then might make the leap wink

Cheers ...

Re: Hacking the Duo 2.0A to print 3rd party filament??

UGH. . so for the last couple of days I had been getting terrible prints riddled with holes and could here slight popping during those prints every now and then from the filament. I was tearing my hair out changing settings like crazy and printing again but I decided my abs and pla must be saturated with moisture some how. I will be baking them for a couple of hours before I use the printer again.

But on another note, I basically had to take apart my entire extruder head because when I went to unload the pla, my nozzle temp for that extruder was somehow set at 230 degrees C and so the PLA balled up inside and it wouldn't let me get the filament out. Does anyone know where to change the temperature that the printer gets to in order to LOAD/UNLOAD filament? I know how to change the temps before a print in slicer but I don't understand why the printer wouldn't account for this when UNLOADING or LOADING filament.

I use the XYZerocart on my 2.0 and it works great. I did not change any firmware.

This is what i was thinking too ^

How is it ? What have you tried with it ?

Re: Hacking the Duo 2.0A to print 3rd party filament??

Where can I get a copy of xyzerocart? Any links or zip files?? Thanks in advance
