Topic: da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1 Filament Hack?

Hello all,

Extremely new to 3D printing here...the wife picked up a da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1 printer for Christmas (such a wife!), and while I've made good use of it so far, I'm a bit frustrated with the low quality, locked down PLA that da Vinci sells at higher than average prices...

As such, I'd love to do a quick mod to use non-XYZ PLA on the da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1, but I've not seen much information on modding the printer (or if the NFC-tag hack will work here). Could anyone point me in the right direction?

If I missed a post specific to this topic, I apologize in advance.

Thanks!

Ryan

As far as I know the paper tags will work on all of the da vinci printers.

Just to be clear they will work on all Da vinci printers that use an RFID chip. They will however not work on Da vinci printers such as the 1.0 or Aio that use a physical 3 pin contact chip which is in a cartridge.. Seems people are forgetting XYZ still makes and sells non-RFID systems.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1 Filament Hack?

Thanks for the advice. I have some paper tags ordered after some success yesterday. For future 3-in-1 users who may stumble across this:

  • I was able to use the RFID NFC Tool and the Mifare Ultralight / NTAG setting to read one of the chips built into the spool

  • After reading, i was able to use the tool at https://nfckey.xyz/ and the values from pages 0 and 1 of my scanned chip to get the key/PACK for my tag

  • Back in RFID NFC Tool i was able to create a NTAG key for my chip, and then use the Mifare Ultralight / NTAG option with the "Authenticate with 1 of preset and enabled keys" to read the full chip

  • With the right hex values, i was able to reprogram the appropriate lines.

Now when my printer scans the chip, it believes the chip to be a full 200m spool. I can reset this value (seemingly at will) with the same procedure as above. Hoping this works with the paper tags as well!

Even easier (for future people), you can use either:

No need to compute anything or mess with hex values. Just scan, set values, save, and you're good to go!

Wow, I didn't realize that this would reset the DaVinci spools to 200m on TOP of programming new tags. Awesome! Will confirm the app with new tags and non-DaVinci PLA tonight!
