Topic: Hi I'm Tom

I live in Boston, I've just gotten my Solidoodle 2, and I'm currently trying to figure out why I can't do step 1 of setting up the Repetier software. smile

Re: Hi I'm Tom

So my first problem seems to be that my Mac isn't recognizing the printer as a USB device. I don't know if it's a bad cable, a bad connector, or something else, but adding the cable in does not change the USB list at all.

I'm not a hardware guy by any stretch of the imagination, but the inside of the cable connection and the inside of the connector on the machine look different. The cable connection looks like it wants to accept four prongs at the very end, though there also looks to be connector metal down the side. The other connector has a solid slug in the center, that the cable connector fits over, but doesn't seat all the way down to the end.

I'm wondering if that's a cover that needs to be taken off, but gently pulling on it doesn't seem to do anything, and I'm loathe to try something more than that without confirmation.

As an additional piece of information, when I plug the cable into the machine (in the connector marked "2" on my machine), a red light in the upper left hand corner of the controller board lights up.

Re: Hi I'm Tom

the cable will seat in about 80percent this is normal for usb 'B' connections, the metal cover stay on the end of the cable.

Sounds like you just need the drivers installed ---> http://www.solidoodle.com/how-to-2/how- … -software/

Re: Hi I'm Tom

Thanks. I'm taking this opportunity to bring my OS completely up to date, (it was sitting at 10.6.8), and will install the drivers if that doesn't fix things on its own.

And the lesson here is to look more carefully for already known solutions. I tried a brief scan of topics, but didn't seem to figure it out the first time around. Hopefully, I'll get better at this!
