Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

You look so young. For some reason I pictured more of a middle aged guy in my head. LOL

Glad to see you posting again. My Solidoodle would probably be in the garbage by now if it wasn't for Lawsy!

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

That's a very nice tutorial.  Well done.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

Thanks guys. I'm 35 now so I was pretty young back in the early Solidoodle days. Planning a video that recaps all of the mods I've done to it as a farewell. Might be a few things I never posted here.

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

For the first time in I don't know how many years, my Solidoodle won't be my main printer.

According to the Facebook group the Prusa i3 mk3 is full of bugs, so we'll see how that pans out.

These days I have a resin DLP printer too. It's pretty interesting, I'll make some vids on that too.

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

well I think many of us have more than one printer. I started with a solidoodle and still have it but it is by far from my main printer. I still hang here . I mostly sandbag the davinci threads and help where i I can .

Have you come across a resin that is as tough as ABS or PLA? My only gripe with SLA is the finished prints are very brittle and not good for structural parts.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

I've only tried Monocure 3D so far. I got the D7 only to do miniatures and cosmetic parts. I'm also going to use it with casting resin to produce investment cast silver jewellery.

Very nice to see you posting again.

Hope all is well

Just took a quick look at two Printit machine, the first impression is the big letter in red background can be improved. The machine will look much more professional without the big "8.10" or "Horizon".

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

Really you criticize the graphics and ignore the specifications.

Not criticize on the specification or anything else, it is just something I think is easy to fix and can improve people's first impression on the machine a lot. I'm not saying the graphics are more important than the specification, but unfortunately it will affect the sale believe or not. I know people from R&D and Marketing department have different opinion on what makes great product, but if it is a easy fix, why not do it?

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

Wardjr, thank you for the kind words. I really loved those early days! Solidoodle were slack and our close knit community worked together to make the printer something worthwhile.

Anyhow, here is the next instalment:

Maybe in your region or business sector. But in mine which is Telecom refurbished, graphics sell a product. We have tours of prospective customers weekly. Since we started getting products with graphics and names that are very visual our customer base has grown more than ever. The only thing we did is stopped buying generic and stop buying products that are afraid to have their name and logos proudly displayed on them.

To me a company name on a product and the font and size of that name directly relates to how that company feels about its own products. Large name means very proud and supportive. Small or no name means they would rather not even be associated with product.

1. That huge text is not company name or logo, it is the model of the printer.

2. My issue is not the size of the text, is more about the design of that big text. It appears the company did not spend much time on the design. I don't think it necessary have any direct connection to the product quality, but the lesson I learned from Marketing department is that most customer will under the impression that the company do not pay attention to the details. They think product have bad appearance tends to have quality issues. (Before I start my career in Science, I make living in software company).

Re: Video for beginners starting CAD

I appreciate the interest.

This is Lawsy’s thread so let’s stay on topic please.  I only posted the link to save an old friend some time.  After all, most of my CAD abilities came from him.  So I’d strongly recommend anyone involved with 3d modeling, follow his videos.
