Topic: New to me Davinci and its shifting by an inch?

I've been itching to get a 3d printer but the price was just throwing me off finally I invested in a Kickstarter printer that looked promising, long story short its almost two years later and they've only put out 30 printers. So I kind of gave up until I saw a post for a used xyz davinci for 200 bucks I offered 150 and he said sure. well after hrs of trying auto calibrate I gave the guy a call he suggested the paper trick did it and tried my first print. it was horrible the xyz key chain. It shifted like 5 times. cleaned it all off and tried something from thingyverse. One note I am worried about is every time Import it to xyz soft ware for slicing it shows the red box stating problem with model click to autocorrect should I do this? I've tried both was and it messes up either way.

I made the mistake of not taking more the one picture. I'll up load it shortly. I was able to finally print the Minecraft key chain icons from the xzy gallery slight warpage on the raft but turned out not so bad.

My biggest problem is I can't get anything bigger then that to print it shifts to many times after like 3 or 6 layer, then I just have strings in the air and a big mess. I don't see any loose or broken brackets.

I know its a older machine but any help from guys still using it would be awesome. my kids can't wait for another good print.

I have tried searching google and forums but I don't see anyone with shifts of this magnitude. I see like mm shifts of each layer or maybe 1/4 inch mine goes from 1/4 to almost and 1inch 1 and half. and can't seem to get above 6 layers.

xyz davinci 1.0a. fully stock as far as I know.

Appreciate the help!!

I replied to it just before you posted. I have found that while printing I get a loud ratcheting sound. Looked closer and it seemed to hapoen when the cable sleeve is just barely touching the frame. And if I push the cable through the handle opening. I can actually creat the noise but it doesnt seem to shift afterwards. My belts are tight but I dont have any comparison to how tight they should be. http://soliforum.com/i/?af5wsIQ.jpg

And I fail to take pictures of the ones where the raft was printing off the bed.

Ok im pretty sure it has to do with the cable.  I can put it in jog mode and actually tap the cable while it isnt even moving and create the grind sound. And worse if I do it while its moving.  Ill try to upload a video. Any suggestions on how far back to trace the cable to find short?

Re: New to me Davinci and its shifting by an inch?

I get this may be going to no one but I may have fixed one issue. I traced the wire to find a break in the yellow x axis wire. stripped patched and tested in jog mode no shuddering so off to test it with a simple print. hopefully I don't run out of filament before I get it fixed. (some is on order and I'll try the cart reset in a few weeks)

Sweet! appreciate the point to link carl_M1968

Even though I did find and read the thread before posting my question. I went back over it and looked at everything, and found it was due to the hidden break in a wire at a zip tie. patched it and I have atleast a print I can be happy about. Now just time to tune it in or learn how to expand it's abilities.
