Topic: makerbot 2 large part heat failure

I have an interesting problem. My makerbot was running awesome.  Then i tried a part that took up most of the bed and it got a "loss temp"failure.  So then i printed like 30 smaller parts no issue.  Then again tried a big mart and got two failures at the exact same place in the exact same part.  Then printed a smaller part and no issue.  I replaced the thermocouple recently so i know for sure its fine.  Its not a time issue because i can easily print parts with a smaller bed surface area that las well over 5 hours. Also i noticed on the big parts if i pause the print the temperature started to climb back up where it should be. Anyone seen this before?

It'd be interesting to see a temp chart with the output graph.

Re: makerbot 2 large part heat failure

Loose thermistor/thermocouple connections could be a culprit...

Re: makerbot 2 large part heat failure

Had this happen on our Makerbot Mini twice yesterday. I've become quite the expert taking those "smart" extruders apart, and could see nothing noticeably wrong when I took it apart after the first error. When I reprinted and got the second error, I was skeptical, so I just hit resume and it went on extruding just fine.

We have two "smart" extruders, and I noticed this only happens on the one we use the most, the other is really just a back up anyway. Could be some sort of wear over time, but I'm more inclined to believe it's a weird fluke, like the filament jam detection option that really only seems to be there to try and keep people from using 3rd party filament.
