Topic: Nozzle too high. New to repetier, davinci 1.0a.

Ok so im new to 3d printing. I got a davinci 1.0a for christmas and i've been using it nonstop.

Today I installed repetier 92 because i've heard nothing but trash talk on the original software/firmware, and i agree it sucked. I got repetier installed, and now I'm stuck and afraid to do anything else on my own. I changed the x y and z home positions in the eeprom to -30, -10, and -3 respectively, as every guide and forum post ive seen says to do with differing numbers. I've changed my slic3r settings to be similar to some of the configs i've seen posted on here.

But when I go to print a test plug, the nozzle starts too high off the bed, several mm. My z offset is 0. Do i just adjust the z home position until its closer? Couldnt i severely damage the printer if i change it even just a little too much in the wrong direction?

I calibrated the printer a day or two before installing repetier, and just tried running the auto calibration on repetier and it gives me a zprobe error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Stock and Repetier FW do not work in same way - you need to redo manual calibration and do not use autocalibration
There is a thread for bed leveling

I suggest you not to change anything in EEPROM - defaults values defined for 1.0a should be corrects

Uh...I already did hmm Any idea what the defaults are?
And once i do manual calibration, will it damage the printer if i use the automatic calibration after?

go to printer menu settings and load fail save then save, this will restore default values  for your printer

Thank you!

So, I did that. Went to start a demo print to do a manual calibration, and the nozzle goes to the right side of the bed and knocks into the side of the glass...It's too low.

demo print from xyz? it is for xyz fw, do not use with repetier

Oh...I was doing what the bed leveling for beginners thread said, so do i actually pick manual calibration on the printers settings screen ? Or do I just start a random print and do the paper method?

you can use manual calibration from menu, it is what I use everytime

That method is universal and is based on the normsl method of starting a print per firmware. If you are using Repetier firmware then you would start a print through Repetier Host instead of a demo print. I was not even aware you could access the demo prints once Repetier firmware was installed.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Nozzle too high. New to repetier, davinci 1.0a.

Ok so I started a small print last night after manually calibrating the printer,  a simple plug with a hole and tab that fit together.  It printed beautifully and fit together though I had to push kinda hard. I figure whew I'm in the clear,  start a more ambitious print,  make sure it lays down the first bit of the model,  then go to sleep.

It was supposed to be this:

Thingiverse.Com/thing:653085

I woke up to find this:

Imgur.com/dfhADcT

I don't even.  I haven't started a new print yet,  and I had to leave the house until later tonight so I can't do anything to my printer right now,  but....the texture on the lumpy part is...smooth. no lines in the side.  Did I royally screw up my printer somehow?

no but you may need to adjust your slicer settings first with less  complex model
this model does not need support?
also temperature looks too hot

Re: Nozzle too high. New to repetier, davinci 1.0a.

Hm, ok ill do a little more research on what settings to use in slic3r. And nope, no support on that model. I started printing it on xyzware and got most of it done then had an unrelated issue and had to stop.

And really, too hot? Hm...i'm running it at 220 in the slic3r settings, and the default extruder temperature in repetier host is 210. Max extruder temp set at 240.

Using stock abs filament from xyzware still, Thats too hot? I know the stock firmware heated it to 212, so i can do that if i need to...it just surprises me because i see people print much higher temps with abs with no issues.

Re: Nozzle too high. New to repetier, davinci 1.0a.

well I may use innacurate wording, original model looks having small perimeter so one layer is done very fast and still too hot when starting the next one you may need to slow  down the print speed to let cooldown between layers

Re: Nozzle too high. New to repetier, davinci 1.0a.

ok that makes sense. when i get home ill try messing with print speed. Thanks for all the help so far lol!

Just so you know the stock ABS from XYZ is not normal ABS it is specially formulated to work at 190 which is the normal print temp for a stock Da Vinci for ABS.

I see.

190 though? on stock firmware it always went to 212 for me.

It will work at 190 but the chip in that cart sets it to 212. 212 is also 5 to 10 degrees above actual as well. So again 190 is closer to what the filament really works with.
