Topic: bed not moving z axis rod issue

Solidoodle support ended by telling me that the z axis rod may be bent. They ended the communication after that although I had asked how to check it, and or replace it and or the whole stepper motor if the rod turned out to be bent. They don't list these parts on the site so I feel lost. Anybody have any idea?

It's a solidoodle press.

That would be most logical since you did post this in the Press section. Sorry I missed that earlier.
Are you saying the threaded rod is bent or the guide rods are bent?  Either way, these are easy things to find replacements for.  If it's the guide rods all you have to do is measure them and find a suitable replacement on Amazon.  If it is the threaded rod and it is pressed onto the motor like other SD models, You'll have a couple options.  Often times the rod isn't bent, rather they were drilled poorly and are out of center.  You could try and separate the rod from the motor and use an old ham style or similar coupler.  If the rod is indeed bent the same process would apply but with a replacement threaded rod.

Re: bed not moving z axis rod issue

Is there a thread on what size rod and what size threads and such the rod is? I find it odd that solidoodle support couldn't answer these questions after months of communication and helpful people at soliforum takes only hours for a solution!

Re: bed not moving z axis rod issue

Not owning a Press I can't say for certain what size and pitch rod was used.  The SD2,3&4 used a basic hardware store 5/16-18 threaded rod and a standard nut.  I would guess the Press is not the same though.  It is most likely a metric rod of some sort in the (about) 8mm diameter range.
You can measure the pitch by simply rotating the rod by one whole turn and measure the distance the bed moved.  Once you figure that out find a suitable coupler that will fit the 5mm shaft of the motor and the 8mm (if that's what it is) replacement rod.  If you don't own a calipers, pick up a cheap digital one.  It is an essential tool when it comes to 3D printing.

If you are going to go down the Z rod replacement path, you may want to consider this mod:
