Topic: Where does this part go?

Hi Everyone,

So I got my printer yesterday, and aside from the Y axis not moving initially (had to disable the motors and forcibly move it a few times), it has been great smile Only problem was when I opened it, there was a small circle of what looks like insulating tape of some kind in the bottom of the Solidoodle (see attached). I can't seem to figure out where it has come from and was hoping someone that has the part in the right spot might be able to tell me where it goes. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Goes over the nozzle.

Re: Where does this part go?

I've already got a wider 2-3cm in diameter piece around the nozzle where the wires are going. The lost piece is only about 1cm in diameter. Is this what you mean or something different?

Maybe if someone could post a pic of the machine internals I might be able to figure it out.

Re: Where does this part go?

There are lots of pictures of the hot end around here, but the smaller piece goes around the bottom nozzle where the thermistor is, and the larger piece goes around both the heater core and the nozzle on top of the smaller piece.

You can see how the second piece sticks out a tiny bit from under the larger insulation there.

Re: Where does this part go?

There are two insulator wraps on the new hot ends-  the smaller one fits over the nozzle head itself.
Mine also slipped off but it was easy to put back on by turning it inside out and unrolling it upwards with the heat off.

EDIT:  Oh didn't know there were two on the older ones, as well.  In any case, they look a bit different now that's for sure.

Which version of Jigsaw is that?   Looks much better than the clear plastic,

NG,

Looks like lawsy's mk2 design.  He has updated and released his new mk3 design.

Re: Where does this part go?

Thanks guys. I'd been using it without it and it didn't really seem to make a difference, but it's back on now regardless.

Cheers smile

Re: Where does this part go?

It helps keep the nozzle a little better on target temp smile. You can compare a graph of the temp for a print done with the tape, and a graph done without the tape.

If you don't have either of the insulators, you're liable to get a flaky reading on the thermistor.

Aye, that's the reason we use it.
