Re: Curling
What filament are you using? Have you tried a different type?
Have you also verified your bed is actually hot?
Using the Solidoodle 1.75mm ABS filament that came with it. Bed is hot to touch.

Print a first layer, stop the print and take a picture... it's possible you aren't printing close enough.. I don't know how well the auto leveling system works.
I would suggest better filament (Octave is good), but i'm not saying that will solve your problem. Solidoodle filament is more expensive but lower grade than most manufacturers. Sad but true.
I had problem with SD filament would always curl. Just switched to Octave roll is great, bought some after other members reviews...almost sticks too well.
Same issue with me. I use Solidoodle's filament.

The sticking power and quality of a fresh octave roll blows my mind every time!
Looked like the brim was going to do the trick, but then, not. See pic. Will order some better filament, and keep trying things in the meantime.
Are you using Slic3r? If so, try changing the "First Layer Extrusion Width" under advanced settings to 150% or 200%. This has a huge influence on how well the part sticks.

It was at 200% before, and we changed it to 150%, per another suggestion. Changing it back to 200%, now. Maybe that, plus brim, will do the trick. Wish I had better filament on hand to try, to rule that in or out.
Is that front fan on during your print?
How much hairspray did you use?
ABS should not warp that much.
I was just going to ask about a fan...if fans on leave it off for first few layers

We've tried with fan on and off, no difference that we can tell.
Fairly generous with the hairspray, maybe not generous enough.
Trying again right now, moving it farther back on the bed, since it's always the front edge coming up. Just to see what that does.
Mine is a SD4 without any fan blowing and I still get similar lifting.
Maybe the aluminum bed is slightly warped not forming uniform surface with the glass to heat it enough and/or evenly?
We had a borrowed MakerBot 2 for a few weeks, and we NEVER had this sort of warping issue. No heated bed, and we used blue painter tape. I'm close to just turning off the heat on the bed, and applying the tape, just to see if that works ok.
You were probably using PLA. That won't work so well with ABS. ABS is far less finicky if you can get it to adhere though... Can you post the picture I asked for?
I make that assumption because I'm looking at the replicator 2x in our lab right now and it is in no way equipped for ABS. We only use PLA on it.

Correct, we were using PLA with the MB2.
Can you post a picture of Just a first layer please

Will ask assistant to try that tomorrow. It's printing now (on a different section of the bed), and I'll be leaving on errands, soon.
I really appreciate all the help you folks are giving us. It's a huge help to speed up the learning process. :-)
Yeah, you are missing something obvious here. Are you squishing the first layer enough so that it looks like a ribbon going down?

FYI...unattended operation is NOT advised!

:-) No, I stopped it. Thanks.

I'm not sure more is better. My procedure which has served me well is to start with a clean glass plate (clean with alcohol), and spray left to right and right to left about 8" away about 7-8 passes. Then I rotate 90 degrees and repeat. I let them dry overnight if I can (I usually prepare four at a time so I always have one ready to go). Make sure you don't touch the surface with your hands. You shouldn't have to reapply hairspray for a while (can get several prints on the same spot).
Also, what kind of hairspray? There are several different varieties with different chemical mixes but I read somewhere to find one with polyvinyl something or other in the ingredient list. That ended up being the white generic brand at Walmart for me. I've read Aquanet Ultrahold also fills the bill.
You want this bottle.

I took a look at the last print we made yesterday and 3 of 4 corners stuck well, while one corner always curls up after the first few layers. It's always the corners facing the front of the printer. We have the sides and front enclosed but not the top yet. I've just checked some settings and reapplied some hairspray(Aquanet Extra Super Hold) because I think we went a little thin on it yesterday. I'll post a pic when I get something going here...

Covering that top will go along way towards reducing warping. You may want to check that corner of the bed for temp and that it isn't sitting lower than the rest of the bed.
