Topic: Extruding PET/PETE

Has anyone experimented with extruding PET? The MP is 260C, which leads me to believe that the heater on the filastruder couldn't handle it. Anyone have input?

Re: Extruding PET/PETE

Heater can definitely handle it, probably in stock form. The temperature measured is the nozzle temp, not the heater temp.

If you wanted higher temperatures, you can run the heater at 15 volts (+40C) or 18 volts (+80C).

The heater is rated at 18 volts. I run it at 12 volts for safety reasons. That way if the controller or thermocouple were to fail, unsafe temperatures could not be reached.

Finally yes, PET has been done before, and with good tolerances:

Note that there are many types of PET. Some will do better than others.
