Topic: Firewall not working blocking XYZ software

My windows firewall block is no longer working on the XYZ.exe? I am on windows 8.1 and it was working for a few days and now its connecting again and asking me to update. I have tried added the inbound and out bound rules and made sure there is no exception to allow an application through. If i apply the same rules to internet explorer or firefox they work fine and they are blocked. I switch just the application back to xyz and it ask would you like to update. If i turn off all inbound and outbound connections for everything then it stops asking for a update. I have no third party antivirus or firewall.  I was running the 1.1.33 then uninstalled it and went back to the disk version 1.1.27 multiple times with the firewall in place and same thing. Anybody else having the issue?

I don't think your firewall is compromised, I think newer versions of XYZware are now coded with an awareness of the most recent version of the firmware that should be running on the printer. That being the case, XYZware doesn't have to call home at all to know that your printer firmware is not up to date with what they want you to be running.
e.g. 1.1.34.7 wants your printer to be running 1.2.4... and if it doesn't find it when talking to your printer it nags you to update.
However, as we've all discovered 1.2.4 has a serious bug in it, so XYZ issues 1.1.34.8(hot fix) who's only purpose is to want the older 1.2.3 on your printer... i.e. to roll back your firmware to 1.2.3
Clearly XYZ wants to tighten up control of our printers even more by coupling the firmware with XYZware. Gone I think are the days when you could download the firmware directly and install it. Clearly XYZ only wants XYZware to determine whether or not you need to update your firmware and XYZware will then handle the install of new firmware directly.
I predict that there will no longer be any notice of firmware updates directly on the XYZ support download page... we'll only ever be told of new versions of XYZware and the purpose of such an upgrade may solely be to handle the install of new firmware.

Thanks...That all makes sense.Its probably a control measure, I think i just got the final push to move over to Repetier smile

I always check that my firewall is blocking it by going to about then clicking software update. you should get a oops error.

Da Vinci 1.0 stock firmware and stock xyzware.

Thanks for the tip but I tried for 4 to many hours to get XYZ.exe blocked and decided to move on.  I unistalled XYZ and spent about 3 hours(I had a couple of hiccups while speed reading) and flashed to Repetier 0.92. I love the printer and I think XYZ did a heck of a job on it. I just dont want to be controlled, limited or cattle prodded into anything.
