Topic: 3mm extrusion questions problems etc.
This morning I decided to drill out a non melt filter nozzle with a 7/64 bit ( as recommended in the Filastruder assembly pdf). I drilled it out by hand without a drill press. I am concerned about a few things: Is the hole I drilled clean enough, and is it round enough. ( I think it is)
After installing the new nozzle, I noticed that filament being produced was shinny and smooth like it should be, however I did not check my temps then. (this was done horizontally) Next I set up my Filastruder for vertical extrusion, and that is when I ran into a few problems.
At 170 degrees Celsius, the filament extruded looked rough, almost like 1.75mm filament that was extruded too hot.
At 155 degrees Celsius, the filament looked slightly rough and more shinny but not quite there.
How can ABS exrtrude so cold at 3mm? It looked like I was getting maybe 3-6in per minute. This is with GP35. Another thing to note was that the temps usually hovered about 5 degrees bellow the set temp. I do not think something is wrong with my heater band or thermocouple, since I extruded 1.75mm just fine at 195 degrees Celsius a few days ago. The diameter of the produced filament was not a problem at around 2.87. This was done on a stock Filastruder with no modifications.
Next, the servo motor for the filament guide on the Filawinder was vibrating horribly. I did install the base extension on the Filawinder, so I know that is not the problem. The Filawinder functioned just fine with 1.75mm.
Thanks.
