Topic: Slicing question on enforce support for the first X layers

Does anyone know if there is a way to use the "Enforce support for the first X layers" feature while not having supports for the rest of the model?  I've got a pointy bottom object that requires a minimum 5 layer raft and 15 layers of supports on the bottom to avoid coming off the bed part way thru the print, but turning on supports makes a lot of sloppy supports in other areas that I don't really need it.  I wish there was a feature to disable supports after Y layers.

I'm about to try cura or some other slicers since I can't get it to work the way I want in slic3r.  Any tips?

yep. I got a few profiles that way for things like boats or low rider cars. it works great. just use a 1-3 layer raft also so it sticks the thin support good and easy to peel off. have to figure how many layers needed before printing by looking at gcode layers to the point its no longer needed then save profile and restart RH to erase residual memory from previous settings

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

While not exactly what you are looking for, Simplify3D will allow you to choose where you want your support. Downside is it not free.   Other than something like that, you want have to edit your STL to add in support just where you want it.

SD2 - Glass Bed, Fans on PCB and Y motor, Custom enclosure
Slicer - Simplify3D
