Topic: Extruder Nozzle Clogged...

Soooo frustrated...

Been printing successfully for a while now, changed cartridges multiple times...
Was printing a 4hr print job and about 3.5hrs into the job ran out of filament.

Cancelled job, and tried to install new cartridge.
When choosing load filament, extruder starts pulling filament, and then stops pilling and begins a clicking noise.
I've tried choosing the "clean nozzle" option from the menu multiple times which moves the nozzle to the front of the case and allows me to stick the little wire up into the nozzle pretty far before it stops...also tried sticking the wire into the top of the extruder and it goes down pretty far. have also tried putting a little pressure on the filament from the top while its loading and the extruder continues to click click click...

I fear the only way I am going to get this unclogged is to take the extruder nozzle off, but I am a little nervous to do this to my brand new printer...

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I had it multiple times until i posted my $3.00 filter topic. Look it up.
Anyway, dont panic. Just take a wire from your electronics or what not and strip it. Pull one or 2 strings and shove them into hot nozzle of your printer. Pull out and extrude some to see what comes out.
dont it a million times.
You could slightly bend the wire and twist it inside the nozzle so it picks up anything thats on the sides.

Garbage should come out no problems, no need to take anything apart.

If the above doesnt work and you suspect to have a big chunk inside, let the nozzle cool down some (ABS 180) or (PLA 100) and quickly pull the filament out of the nozzle.
It should grab on what ever is in there.
Cut the excess and try reload/heat up/extrude

So after looking at some other posts at how to take apart the extruder, I was less afraid than I was anxious to resolve this so I took off the extruder assembly and I have found my problem...

It appears that when it pulled the remaining bit of filament off the cartridge and I walked in and saw the out of filament message and subsequently cancelled the print job, there was still a piece of filament inside the extruder nozzle...
If I had to guess it is prob 1-1.5 inches long as unfortunately I can see it when I look in from the top of the nozzle, but I can not get a hold of it even with needle nose...I am attaching a picture, but I had a tough time taking a picture that shows what I can see with the naked eye...

The only thing I can think is to plug the assembly wires back up, start a "load filament" process, let it heat up and try to grab it and remove it from the top with tweezers or something...but that sounds a little risky...

Any suggestions on getting this filament out?

gas lighter ?
does it have ABS or PLA in it ?
Just get it hot from outside and fish it out.

I'll go pick up a little butane torch and try that tonight...
O, and it's ABS...I haven't attempted PLA just yet...

Just wanted to say thanks to tonycstech...
Stopped and picked up a small butane torch, put the nozzle in my vise on the work bench and heated the metal until the ABS inside caught on fire and began to melt, then worked the very thin metal nozzle cleaning wires that came with the DaVinci in and out of both ends until they came out with no ABS on them...did this a few times, then popped the nozzle back in the printer, ran a few "load filament" processes which resulted in some off color abs coming extruding out (switching from black to white filament)....after 2-3 times it was coming out pure white. Proceeded to print a nice 6.5" x 4.5"x.5" project flawlessly...

I have a serious issue with my davinci 1.0, after start a good printing the filament stuck inside the nozzle, this is no matter which filament happen with all of kind of....few days ago it worked all ok.
The very strange point is that when I unscrew the straight metal part of the nozzle the filament still stuck inside.... it's impossible to take the filament out like it expanded inside the straight metal pipe.... the only way to take it out is put on fire and use 1.5mm diam metal wire....but with a new job the problem restart....
It's very frustrating because looks a no temporary problem, it does not work even if you cool&reheat the filament many times, has to be all melt and take it out....

Any suggestion?

PS I use only ABS

Well I solved by myself and report here to help other people in case of the same problem:
I found out a very hot spot in one of the 2 wires the heat the nozzle (you can see just touch with your finger) it means that the wire was broken with result of a crazy filament stuck so had to cut the write and repair it, after this action the printer restar finally to work.

I recently got a da Vinci Mini 3D printer,
I had everything going perfectly until it alerted me that it was jammed, so I took out the filament and selected unload filament on the computer for the printer, so then I put the cleaning wire up the extruder and then I assumed that it was fixed but when I
put the filament back in and selected load filament and then when I did at the end of when it warms up and says that you click finish once you see that it sends a cool stream of filament, but mine didn't send a stream of filament at all, and it keeps repeatedly making a thudding sound.

I hope some one can help me, or at least give me some advice on what to do.

ive got exactly the same problem with my da vinci,but i havent got a cleaning pin from da vinci,what can people advise me to use instead,as im at a standstill at the moment,thanks in advance

If you can cut metal wire, try cut something like this to make metal stick to push the filament from top, Any steal stick with diameter slightly smaller than 1.75mm will work. You need to preheat the nozzle to 200C and take out the hose connector, Put the metal stick where filament goes in from the top and push down. If this doesn't work, you need to disassemble the hotend and take out the broken filament inside. Be careful not to touch hot nozzle and get your hand burned, and be careful not to touch the running fan and break the fan blade.

To clean the nozzle from bottom, you can use piano wire with diameter slightly smaller than 0.4mm or 0.015 inch. Preheat the nozzle and push the piano wire from the nozzle opening from the bottom. Again, be careful not to touch hot nozzle and get your hand burned.
