Topic: Mechanical properties of 3D printing polymer

What are the polymers that are normally used in 3D printers and are their mechanical properties available anywhere?

ABS, PLA: Common
Nylon, HDPE: Less common

Available via Google.

Here is a site filled with data on most materials properties including tensile and compressive strengths and yields

Re: Mechanical properties of 3D printing polymer

The downside is those are going to be 'bulk' properties.  The properties of a solid made up of layer deposited strings, with partial infill, are going to be far different.  Even full infill will show a large aniostropy in material strength, unlike an equivalent solid block from an injection mold or similar forming method...

Here is a link to MSDS sheets for the comman ABS and PLA plastics, PA-747 (ABS) and PLA4043D.  This is from Makergear who sells those plastics, as does Protoparadigm.  As far as I know, those are the only filament suppliers who actually disclose what plastics they use, though other might be the same.

If you know what the actual plastic used in the filament is, it would make it easier to find out the material properties but most of the time we are in the dark.
