Topic: Who really thinks the Press won't need modded?
Honestly I upgraded to a press for two reasons... Keep my model up to date for easier resale, and I liked the enclosure better than mine. Other than that it really is a 3/4 + or minus a few improvements. Don't get me wrong i'd love to be proven wrong by Solidoodle and see a printer that truly comes out of the box swinging like a champ.
But in reality I am planning on modding the thing right away. What will l mod? not sure. But I am sure something will need modded. I just don't have that kind of confidence in solidoodle's design choices yet. If I need to i'll replace the MB all together. I've got a handful of ramps + mega's lying around. And I am prepared to throw on my DIY version of a bulldog extruder.
I realize the injection molded frame seems like a bit of a down grade, but at the same time... I am not so sure it will make a single oz of difference in print quality/precision. The biggest worry I would have is constantly recalibrating my bed, but with the bed compensation probe i'm not really worried.
I guess what I am throwing out there is it seems like while the press looks like a hopeful one-touch printing solution for home consumers from SD's perspective; to me it just looks like a much more attractive set of bones to mod into beautiful solidoodle frankenglory.
Anybody else thinking the same thing? "Hey their SD press... I look forward to modding you into awesomeness!"
