Topic: My first post. Printing ABS on makerbot rep 2 is totally possible

I'm nrot sure why people with this haven't just added their own heated bed. I repurposed a controller I had and made a bed for a proof of concept. I might make a better one down the line. I put in a order in for PLA at work and i was shipped ABS. I figured I could try and make it work. I didn't even notice at first, but then I read the label after a bunch of failed prints.

PLA is certainly a fine material. Just throwing this out there in case there is an application that you need ABS.

I took off the included PC tray and took some fiberglass board and laid a piece of a stainless plate. Then I used a heater element pad I had leftover from a work project. Then i laid a layer of wide kapton to lay so the blue painters tape doesn't fuse itself to the stainless. Its all kinda taped down.

Stacked it all up and it was approx the thickness of the included build bed. Then i used some isopropyl to clean off the grease/film release from the blue painters tape so the edges of the print don't lift. I didn't try hairspray yet, but i hear that works great. I set my bed to 93* C and here is my test piece. Its just a holder for a fixture. Nothing fancy.
I need to play around with the Skeinforge settings as the extrusion rate is slightly off from my PLA settings.

Thoughts?
