Topic: new to 3d printing

hi guys,

I am a newbie, but i would like to get a 3d printer one day!

Before I do, what should i do? do i need to go on any courses? be good in cad? 3dmax?

I am mainly interested in making telephone covers which i can eventually sell in my local country?

For telephone covers do you think Solidoodle printers are good? What kind of material can the covers be made out of? where can i purchase the material from?

Re: new to 3d printing

I mainly use sketchup to design stuff, however it is not necessary as there are thousands of files to download at www.thingiverse.com.  I wouldn't expect to be able to sell printed phone covers instantly.  It takes a lot of time to tune a printer to get decent quality, and the Solidoodle is no exception.  Solidoodle uses ABS or PLA plastic available from a variety of retailers online.  The Solidoodle is a great printer in my opinion, however it requires a lot of care and attention to produce good prints.
