Topic: Part recall-read if you have a v1.3 kit

Some early v1.3 kits shipped with a wooden thrust plate. The wood in this batch was too soft, resulting in axial translation of the feedscrew. The symptoms of this are the two wooden uprights bowing outwards, and the feedscrew jamming or binding. Here is a picture of the deformed thrust plate:

If yours looks like this, send an email to [email protected] and we'll get a new one on the way. The new plates are made out of laminated HDF. Alternatively if you are impatient, you can use a a large washer to distribute the load over a larger section.

When you get the new thrust plate, there will be two pieces. Stack them and install in place of the original plate. Note that because the original plate deformed, the feedscrew has translated axially, and there will be a 1-2mm gap in the bushings when you reinstall. After the plate is in place, heat the unit up to 190C and tighten the 4 main bolts 1 turn at a time until that 1-2mm gap is closed. While you are doing this, some polymer should come out of the hotend.

I apologize for this, and parts will be sent free of charge upon request.

Additionally, some users have reported the shaft collar can work its way into the black part of the auger. I am including a 10mm washer with serial numbers over 637, but if you are concerned you can pick up a 10mm washer from the hardware store. It slides on the auger first, before the shaft collar, and will keep the shaft collar from riding too far into the black part of the auger. This is not critical, but good to do in case the set screw is not tightened sufficiently.

Just curious... How do we know what version we have?  I got a pre-built unit.  SN: FA61.  Thanks.

This is only for kits... that's why it says "v1.3 kits". smile

All fully assembled are the same revision.

So what serial numbers did this affect in the kits?

Not sure if this is mine or not.

Thanks,

It is only if your thrust plate looks like the picture above and you're experiencing the symptoms described. Other kits are fine.
