I figured I've adjusted almost everything on the printer so far, so the day will probably come when I need to fiddle with vref settings, and I wanted a fan cover that would let me do that without having to remove the cover, so I cobbled this up (and when trying to print it, discovered that a nickle isn't big enough to notice small errors in X-Y calibration :-).
To go with the fans, I've now uploaded: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:172530 (a box to provide lots of fan headers connected to an external 12V supply).
Did you put the fans on for preventative maintenance or because you were actually having an issue? Longest print ive done so far is about 2-3 hours and haven't ever noticed any over heating on the board. What are people looking to prevent or help by doing this?
I put 'em on mostly because I could and because I see lots of other folks talking about the electronics getting hot. I don't know if they will improve print quality, but they don't hurt anything :-). I'm thinking about moving the extruder stepper cooler and the LED lights to the separate 12V supply to further reduce the load on the printrboard (maybe the lights would stop their occasional flickering).
While I was at it, I also replaced the stock extruder fan with one of the Noctua fans (I cut the wires on both fans and used the cable splicer buttons that came with the Noctua). It sure is nice to have a printer that no longer sounds like a coffee grinder when I plug it in :-).
