Topic: Vertical placement
When the filastruder is placed vertically, how far out from the wall does it have to be? Also, what distance from the floor is optimal?

Again, depends on a lot of factors. Filament diameter, polymer type, temperature, cooling, etc. Third link on Google for "Filastruder Vertical":

Looks like most of them are right on the wall.

I added a board at a right angle to the front of the base and set it on a shelf. It's a wire shelf, so I used zip ties to hold it but a weight on top of it will work as well. You can see it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9Du_4Ba5DA.
I cut an opening in the shelf, but you could hang it off the front. I didn't do that because the shelf extended so far from the wall.

Ian what kind of socket do you have on your Filastruder? Also, will you be selling the winder kits?

Do you mean the socket used as a motor/auger coupler? It's 7/16".
I'm hoping for mid-Nov for making kits available. I'm going through the process of getting the electronics fabbed/assembled, so it mostly depends on how long it takes to get through the back-and-forth involved in that.

Yes, the socket used on the motor.Also are you using a dowel pin or washers? I have had no luck with either. Sounds great Ian im looking forward for the winder kits.

Ian, that's beautiful work! Not only does the extruder look great mounted that way, the whole system (extruder plus sensor plus winder) is producing really consistent filament, wound very evenly across the spool.
