Topic: Bent auger?

I built my filistruder  1.3 before the instructions came out and have not noticed where the instructions are? anyways.

I put my filistruder together and i am running it dry with no plastic and i listen to it squeak and groan. Its getting better.
I can watch the auger run threw the hopper opening and notice the auger is bent rubbing the sides in one place.

I want to let it run for a few hours let it squeal and groan and crunch for a while and see where and why. I suspect the bent auger will show up. I want to clean it again and put it back together.

Instructions are here:

Bent auger would have shown up during assembly as binding in step 9. Did it not rotate freely by hand? If it is binding only under motor power, the motor is not aligned with the auger.

Re: Bent auger?

I see no runout where the motor and the auger meet at the socket but inside the hopper barrel i can watch it ride the side wall of the tube and im guessing its doing the same in the front.
I thought i had noticed a slight bend in the auger when i was unpacking it but thought it could just be an optical illusion with the spiral.

Anyways im going to let it run longer without plastic and when its finally done scraping and squealing ill clean it out again and inspect it.

All the bad crunching is done so it should be about worn in.

Re: Bent auger?

If it is rubbing the side in one place, it is misaligned.

If the location of rubbing changes, that indicates a possible bend.

Think of rotating a banana inside a tube - the point of contact will change through time.

Re: Bent auger?

exactly. The aria where i can see the rubbing The gap follows the auger rotation. I have not removed the nozzle yet but i believe thats where the crunching sound was coming from. Ill remove the nozzle later and it should be obvious if it has a bend.
