Topic: Fillament from Amazon

I need to buy some abs fillament. Since solidoodle charges like $14 for SH i am not going to buy from them... I bought off amazon a spool for $30, SainSmart 1.75mm ABS Filament 1kg/2.2lb for 3D Printers Reprap, MakerBot Replicator 2, Afinia, Solidoodle..., but it has inconsistent diameter resulting in inconsistent deposition rate. Can any one suggest a GOOD ABS filament from Amazon that has consistent diameter and is reasonably priced? Bonus points if it is available for prime shipping.

Thanks

While I've had good results with SainSmart, the Octave available on Amazon is very consistent.

I've read some good things about sainsmart but for some reason on my doodle it shows variable depositon rates, even though linear feed rate is in cal. I get wavy/bubbly patterns on my solid layers using sainsmart. I'll try Octave...

Zentoolworks ABS from Amazon is the best I have seen yet. Every time I think theres something wrong with my printer, I load this back in and WALA! everything is fine again.

Octave is OK and a little cheaper, but I keep falling back to the Zentoolworks as the high-quality base for comparison.

This is my first roll, and it's going swimmingly

Re: Fillament from Amazon

I did a search of various online retailers and found a local Octave dealer and bought 4 roles, available for local pickup (Santa Clara CA.)  The packaging on the roll of white was very difficult to remove and I had problems with the filament breaking during the printing process.  The purple roll I bought prints like a dream.  I have not tried the green or gold rolls yet.
I found the White filament to have cracks about 1/2 way through the diameter and the flexing required for feeding from the back of the printer was to much for this roll, (it might work better now that I am feeding from the top after enclosing my printer to retain the heat and reduce warping.)

Take the white roll back.  Octave has shown in the past that they are willing to replace filament that turns out to be brittle.
