Topic: how hot does a new solidoodle 3 actually print: nylon?

hello, i've been looking at a bunch of the new materials coming out for 3D printers and i was really excited to try the new flexible filaments and possibly nylon filament as well for added strength. The only problem is that they require hotter and hotter print temps, from 220-250 Celsius. As far as i can tell, solidoodles are limited at 210 degrees Celsius. but now i've heard that solidoodles actually read 30 degrees to cool? so does that mean my normal 195 print temp is actually 225? i've read that abs actually bonds to its self nicely at around 230 so my previous conjecture makes sense... so am i good to try these new filaments? has anyone try like fila flex or nylon filament through a solidoodle yet?

So far as I know the people who are printing those with a Solidoodle are all people who've replaced the stock hot end with an E3D extruder.

IIRC there was a big thread on nylon a while back. Stuff bubbles, isn't quite as easy to use as you'd like. But that's just what I remember, I can't seem to find the actual thread.

People have printed nylon on a stock SD hotend. I'm one of them. Do a search, man.

thanks for the replies from those who are supportive, sorry that this forum lacks a very advanced search engine and that a quick search didn't yield any useful results. and maybe i was asking so that i could gather information from more senior members that know of useful threads to check out such as hunter green -thanks by the way- i really appreciate your time in finding those threads for me.

As a member of many forums its disappointing to see such snotty replies. If you didn't intend it to sound like that then learn something about tone of voice, its a powerful tool in writing, especially on the internet where you don't have inflection of voice or background of argument to infer from. If you're upset with answering "noobs" (as I'd name myself among this community) questions, then maybe you'd like to compile a list of common question and form a one stop thread entitled "new users stop here first!" or maybe "what you can print with your solidoodle" that deal with a more general list of topics or a topic that isn't covered yet in the stickies that already exist. If you find that too time consuming and you'd rather just leave sneering comments on innocent questions of new users than maybe you should reconsider why you participate in this community.

after reading through your link nylon, it seems like its more trouble than its worth, it puts off noxious chemicals and isn't really "stronger" in the sense that its stiffer or less prone to splitting. i'm really excited to see that fila flex from recreus is in the range of the solidoodle, im really excited to try this stuff as soon as they make it in 1.75mm

As a member of a number of forums myself I find the majority of forum software does not have very good search services built in and hence I am usually reverting to google with the 'site' modifier... ie... 'google.com' + 'site:soliforum.com nylon printing' I find it very easy to type these extra 19 characters in so I don't have to ask the same question posed by hundreds of noobs before me on a particular subject as it saves me time and doesn't waste others time as well smile

Responses like yours are *less* than helpful, and obviously designed to be nothing more than demeaning. You could have made it a honestly helpful post, instead of being an utter tosser.

If you want to troll, or incite or demean- please go to a different forum.

I am sorry you think my response is a tosser... *sigh* I find that many people try the built in search boxes on forums (this one included) and don't get the results they want...so they instantly post up questions that have been covered numerous times, so I offer this tidbit of very useful info ' try using google with the 'site' modifier you will find it works excellent and you can use it with just about all of googles other tools with this as well; the search results will speak for themselves... I know before I learned of using google like this I had many troubles with differing forum search tools and could just about never find what I was looking for until I saw a post about using google and the site: operator since then I was hooked smile I guess I could have used lmgtfy.com and you wouldn't have had to type anything....  oh well....

I printed some nylon on my stock hot end. I ended up melting my peek in the process. Get an E3D and print out the MK5. You will be please and be able to print whatever you want.

You can print Nylon with the stock hot end but you will be much happier with the results you get at higher temps (235C+) which require an all metal hot end (E3D)
