Well, I haven't gotten my Solidoodle to print very well yet, but I did come up with a nifty udev script (in combination with my z-wave home controller) to automatically turn on and off the A/C power cube when I plug or unplug the USB cable:

Unfortunately, the linux Repetier Host seems very flaky. I copied all the settings from the Windows version, yet the linux version shifts to the back corner instead of the middle of the print bed when it starts. It also never seems to stop heating - the print bed and extruder temps keep zooming past the target values, but on Windows it actually seems to try and keep them on target.

Make sure you have the right start gcode. This is the reason that you homing issue : http://wiki.solidoodle.com/setting-and- … your-gcode

As for the platform dependent temperature swings, that's news to me. Could still be a calibration thing - though I'm not sure which it would be. Normally shifting temperatures occur due to PID calibration issues, but this clearly not your issue.

I found the registry key where the Windows RH stores all its settings and the fake registry directory where the linux version stashes the equivalent info in .xml files, so I'll be comparing those to see what I missed. Certainly it is pretty obvious right off the bat that I did indeed miss the start and end code, so hopefully things will get better.

P.S. Does anyone know if there is a command line utility I could use in my udev script to verify that the USB serial device just plugged in really is a solidoodle talking marlin firmware? I could also use it to make a /dev/solidoodle symlink in case I get assigned ACM1 instead of ACM0, etc. (I do sometimes do arduino development on other gadgets that might conflict).

By golly, linux (using the RH and Slic3r from the fedora repos) now works exactly the same as Windows. The missing settings I copied from the registry did the trick. Thanks to solidoodlesupport for pointing out the probable missing start and end code.

Now I just need to work on prints curling up (probably glass bed and aquanet time :-).

I could swear I had the glass from an old scanner that died laying around somewhere. Seems like that would be perfect since it isn't too thick, but it is very flat, however I haven't found where I put it yet.
