2n2r5 Print Challenge Week 3 -

About the .stl:
File Name: DesignerFredYoyo.STL

Description:
This is a wonderfully detailed STL that produces a one piece yo-yo designed by DesignerFred. The idea here is to find a way to print this which preserves the integrity of the yo-yo. This design is being used with permission from the owner. Thanks Fred!

Thingiverse Item#: 130558

Print Time:   ~ 2 hours with default SD .3mm layer settings

Filament used: TBA

What are the challenges?:

Supportless support or vice-verse: If printed on the flat side, you will need support material to hold up the other side of the print.

No foot prints: If printed upright, there won't be much surface contact to hold the print.

What to do to give yourself the best chance for success:

For Slic3r vs .9.10B:
Print upright but do not click the "enable support" function.

Instead use the "Enforce Support for the First: X layers"  by itself.  Change this to 10-15 layers to hold the Yo-Yo firmly at the base.

NOTE: I will post some photos tonight. For now, see DesignerFred's thingiverse page.

Re: SYTYCP - Week 3 Yo Yo, DesignerFred

Great fun, I printed with limited support and Support gap at 0.8 in Kisslicer with 0.3 layers standing up, but I suggest 0.2 or better, for less drag on the string when spinning.... The 0.3 works fine though, also choose a nice small size nylon braided string!

Enjoy

Wow 63 downloads, but no one posted pictures... sad
