Topic: Hello from Chicago!

Howdy!

My name is John, and the Solidoodle 3 I just ordered will by my first foray into 3D Printing. I had considered a few different options for building my own machine before deciding to go with the Solidoodle primarily because of the convenience and having a go to community if something goes wrong. So far from kicking around the forum I am impressed by the quality of the group.

Professionally, I install, repair, and instruct in the use of CNC routers, plasma cutters, waterjets, and lasers. I also give dramatic science demonstrations for kids at the local science supply stores. Anything else you want to know, just ask!

Re: Hello from Chicago!

OT for this forum specifically - but what do you use for rastering on the lasers ? Seems any g-code capable controller can almost drive a laser for vector cuts.. but rastering is a different story (as you no doubt know wink and yes setting aside the debate about analog vs PWM and power supplies)

Umming and arring if its worth trying to bludgeon mach3 into working (I hear the plugin's improved), or just go straight to a DSP controller and spit crap outta CorelDraw using its printer functions...

Re: Hello from Chicago!

I use EnRoute, personally, but I have the advantage of having specific output drivers for my company's products. I am using some of the shop equipment for designing and cutting out parts for a little table router of my own, plus I should have a (free) 40w CO2 laser soon. Not quite the 400w I installed a week or two ago, but it should work.

Guys - There is a group for the lasers and stuff at:

http://www.buildlog.net/forum/

It is by Bart Dring who is now I believe the Head of product developement at Inventables.com.

He has developed a 40/60w DIY laser system and is the developer of MakerSlide.
