Topic: Hello from NY

Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm from Cortland, NY. (It's a small city between Syracuse & Ithaca, NY) I just got my Solidoodle 2 Pro yesterday and my family and I have been working diligently to get it calibrated and working.

I decided to get a 3D printer because I want my daughter to learn more technical skills like my husband and I and I want to make awesome things to get other people excited about 3D printing. I also want to design & make awesome gaming things for my friends and family.

I look forward to getting to know the rest of you!

Welcome to the forum, I'm new myself. What ideas do you have for printing?

Re: Hello from NY

I want to make some custom bases for Warmachine minis, some Netrunner tokens, Magic the Gathering deck cases and I promised my friend a dalek. These are in between making toys for my younger one and nephews, models for my husband and friends and maybe some D&D stuff when I have time.

What're you making?

Re: Hello from NY

Might I recommend models from YSB?  Check the show off section... his stuff is not to be believed!

Re: Hello from NY

Thanks for the heads up, cckens. YSB's stuff is super impressive, especially since I'm learning how to make simple shapes in Sketchup still.

We're working on fixing the extruder at the moment. Regardless of how we set the thumb screw, it seems to be gripping the filament too tightly and causing all kinds of issues. Anyway, I'm excited to get printing soon!

Re: Hello from NY

It might not be tension but temperature.  Could be a bleed over from the hot end softening the filament too much.  Loosen the tension arm and try dropping extruder temp by about 5 degrees and see what happens.

Re: Hello from NY

Thanks for the advise. My work computer suddenly can't find its hard drive so I get to tinker with my printer while it runs diagnostics. I'll let you know how it works out at a lower temp!

Re: Hello from NY

Cool! I'm very lucky that I work with some people that also have 3D printers and there's actually a Makers group in the basement of where I work that have 3D printing meetups on Tuesdays. It's a lot easier when you have people around to help.
