Topic: What would you do....

I'm a complete noob at 3d printing or prototyping for that matter.  I'm technically adept, however, not an engineer.

I'm seriously considering a SD3 mainly because of initial cost and lead time.  My second choice right now is a Bukobot.  I've read up on many of the concerns and issues with an SD3 as well as the Buko.

My questions are:  Given my lack of experience would you suggest spending double the money and twice the lead time for a Bukobot?  If you had it all to do over again would you still have purchased a Solidoodle?

Thanks in advance for your time and wisdom.

Re: What would you do....

I've only owned my printer for a couple months, but if I had to do it over again I would still go with an SD3 for my first. If I were to consider another printer after the experience I've gained thus far I would just build my own. The stock SD3 is good for some, but many opt to make modifications. Some to the point where there is not much stock components left at all.

E3D-v4 Hotend, MK5 carriage with round plastic wire conduit , 3/16" tempered glass,  Well nut, SureStepr SD8825 1/32 Extruder Driver, PowerEdge 2650 500W PS, QU-BD heated bed, circuit board fan, hinged plexiglass enclosure with plastic tray top. Other than that mostly stock SD3

Lots of people like our printers. Let us know if you end up choosing us - we're more than happy to help.

Re: What would you do....

While my dealings with Solidoodle have been distasteful to me, I LOVE the printer.  Check the shipping thread to see what actual lead times are these days and if it's acceptable, I say buy.  It's a great value and this forum will help you sort out any issues and get it printing its best.

I had been saving up for a makerbot when the SD2 was released and I had enough for it. I had one of the first models and have gone through a lot of the ups n downs. but I am really happy with it and have learned a lot because of the ups-n-downs. I would recommend it to newbs like me.
