Hopefully you shipped Hunter's bed before offering that stock for sale.

His part is marked as a repair part, it should have precedence over anything else.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

as usual... insanely insane shipping cost...      $32.95 for quebec/canada... for an alluminium plateform..
as always, solidoodle consumer care is a joke...

for this shiping price, my last order was 12 lbs of pellets from OSPRINTING usa with the same postal service

i'm getting more and more angry about that...

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

$23 to Vermont for a $50 item.  That is, almost 50% shipping charges.

When I pointed out to Solidoodle, months and months ago, that flat rate shipping boxes existed, I was told that they were not interested in pursuing that.

Frustrating.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

The extra cost is for storing your item in the shipping department for three weeks, waiting for the one day a month that they take a break from shipping printers to ship parts.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

The worst is when they lie about shipping methods! I just bought 3 hot ends. Got charged $18 for USPS Priority Mail. They showed up weeks later via First Class mail, cost: $1.69 - printed right on the shipping label.

Edit: Raffaele called me today, refunded the entirety of my shipping and apologized, and said he's working to make changes to the shipping system.

did they refund your money?

I would be irate if they pulled some BS like this on me.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

I'd love to get a new platform but Solidoodle's shipping makes them a non option in my opinion.

I can't understand why it is so high when thousands on ebay send items overseas for cheap or free every day.

We can only assume that combined with the slow rate of shipping, Solidoodle just aren't trying hard enough.

Totally with you on that sad I'd like to upgrade to aluminium for my solimill project but having it shipped to Europe is unnecessarily painful. The UK store has some spare parts but their prices are also absurd (they took the price in dollars and "converted" them to british pounds, so 15$ becomes 15 pounds... LOL!)

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

Looks like they got $16.31 in "Handling fees." Interestingly, they are finidng the lowest cost shipping method for them, but not the cheapest option for their customer. Unfortunately, most of the parts are fairly standard and customers will leave instead of paying the high prices they are getting for parts and shipping. Even considering things like envelope cost, labeling, and the manual labor to pull parts from inventory, $16.31 is about 45 minutes of labor cost. They should rethink their strategy since many companies will include free shipping when an order is over $100. I haven't bought any filament from them because I can get a roll plus shipping for just their roll price in their store.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

As a new customer that is disappointing.  I was sort of taken aback when I saw my printer was going to cost 72$ to ship.  I just bought golf clubs from canada that cost less than that to ship and go through customs..

I understand the whole nickel and dime concept, but cheap shipping is important for an online business.  Maybe since they have a niche product they don't care for more bulk orders of accessories and filament..

They have an opportunity to build recurring revenue into their income stream so that they don't just have to perpetually come out with new printers and hope people continue to buy them to make ends meet.

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

Excellent that it is on sale ... but my question is ... how much BETTER it is ?
Is it worth the upgrade or not ?
It is stiffer - yes - if i run it over by a car ... but in printing  ?
... does it weigh less ... less strain for z motor ?
Also it needs modification to accept M5 rod tongue

I like the look over current wooden frame ... so eventually i will probably buy one anyway and
then bitch about it smile

Wow - shipping 49.90.-$ - so is it worth the ~130.-$ in total with shipping and customs ?

It doesn't need mods for M5 change - It passes cleanly through the 5/16" boss thats threaded.. you just need to Tap the 4 mount holes (that are already drilled) to accept a slightly wider than the wooden platform nut-mount.

It weighs about the same from handling, but not actually weighed to tell the difference.

Its proven more reliable in terms of not shifting z-height or levelness throughout the week with temp changes as much as I noticed on the wooden one.

Its far more solid anyway, survives shipping better and just looks more robust. Its also a lot less bulky!

Is it worth getting ? For a US Local it might make sense... for us more remote people.. it would be something you'd have to think long and hard about because whilst it is without a doubt an improvement over the wooden version... I don't know if its Cost+Shipping better than the wooden one if you already have that...

Re: Solidoodle Aluminum Platform now in the store

I don't see a benefit right now to upgrading from the original wooden bed. I have no issues with sagging or warping and my glass platform insures a perfectly flat build platform. Other than my desire to have the newest, best and brightest of everything, I can't find a needs for this... yet.

I would like mounting hole pattern on the top though to make sure I have a slop nut to fit it in case I do switch.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.
