Topic: Print dimension dont match

Hello,

I recently started printing using an old 3D printer from solidoodle. I changed the controls to Ramps 1.4 and am using repetier's latest version to print.
I have had some issues along the way but the forum active members have been very helpful.

I noticed one thing this morning, and that is that the prints i do, are not in scale to the drawing on repetier. I used the 10mm cube test from online and scaled it to 2. and this is what i got. Can someone help me out here?

Your steps per mm on your motors are wrong. You also have to account for which microstepping jumpers you installed under each stepper as that acts like a multiplier on the overall steps of that axis.

I added all jumpers  in. So i suppose thats 1/16th.
Where do i change the mm? in the marlin program? the same way i did the extruder calibration?

On a RAMPS all jumper is 1/32. The steps per mm is changed in the firmware. If you are basing your math on 1/16 then just divide your current settings by 2 and that should get you close. Or you may need to multiply by 2. I get them confused sometimes.

Rather than printing an wasting filament, use your host and do manual moves of 10 or 50mm. Lay a ruler on your bed near the nozzle and make the move along the ruler and just measure the distance moved. You could even use a sharpie to make marks and then clean them later. That way you won't waste filament and have to wait for making changes.

Beg to differ..

they are 1/32 only if you are using 8825 stepper drivers..

4988 stepper drivers would be 1/16 with all jumpers, just like any other 8 bit board

if you are running 1/32 stepping, then you would take the current steps and multiply by 2, not divide.. that would get you close, but could still need a little fine tuning.

Sorry, did not see earlier post showing you had 4988 drivers. I'm used to the better 8825 and 32 bit microstepping. So yes all jumpers installed is 16 bit so you have to make sure your math on all three motors account for that.

Somewhere in the 80 to 100 range should get you in the ball park. On my machine it is 94, 97, and 398. These all rounded down from a 5 decimal number.
