White filament works fine but coloured filament doesn't?

Hi, my school has a davinci jr 1 i think. The white filament works perfectly and consistently. We have purple filament and it constantly lifts off the base and the print head doesn't seem like it lifts up and stays on the same level going over and over its self?
There was a little microchip that came with the white filament and that's the chip im using for the purple as it didn't come with one.
any ideas or sugestions?
