Topic: out of memory

I have been trying to print this vase (Siamese_Orchid_Vase.stl) that I found online at Thingiverse. When trying to slice the .stl with Slic3r I keep getting an error “out of memory”. My computer is an  XP with 4GB of memory. Is this right or is the stl file bad?

Re: out of memory

Meshlab shows no vertices in this model.  The preview confirms this.  Don't know what happened, but the STL file seems empty.

Re: out of memory

Under one of the slicer settings, you can set how many threads you run.  One some huge models, I have had to reduce it to 1 thread instead of 2 threads to get the model to slice without problems.

It is more typically however a problem with the file. try running the file through netfabb.

Re: out of memory

Found the thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:26251 but the file size is 34MB.  Quite a difference from the 2.86 you have there.  I'm slicing now, but at that file size it would run out of memory on a lot of smaller machines.

Re: out of memory

Just pulled the thing into meshlab as it was grinding my system to a halt.  720K facets on this sucker.  This would make anything but a high memory-high cpu system crawl.  It's a nice design, and it's a clean mesh, but, boy, is this thing tri-heavy!

Re: out of memory

I just got a round to setting threads to one with Slic3r and it sliced with out a problem.
