Topic: China Parts To Buy?

Hello. I am heading to China for sourcing. I was wondering what, if any, are some parts or upgrades I can look for to buy (cheaper of course) and carry or deliver over via my company.

Steppers? What are model# better upgrade?
PCB board?

I have Chinese counterparts in china so i can identify and have the source and ship to me or I can bring back.

As an example I brought BEATS headphones back to states and for all intent and purpose they look sound and feel like real thing and they say are made in same factory. And they are WAY cheaper then what I paid for in states.

Anyone have part#, manufacturers, I was thinking about filament suppliers to check out too.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

Filament is easy to get fairly cheap from China already.  Pellets and colorant are harder to get in smaller quantities.  I think this will be the year of the home extruder with Filastruder kits, Filabots (if they ever ship), and Lyman's extruder which Lulzbot is planning on selling.  If you check out filament suppliers, see if they might be interested in selling PLA and ABS pellets, and maybe small amounts of the masterbatch they use the color the filament.  A lot of masterbatch has to be bought by the ton, so it would be cool if they would be willing to resell some of what they already have.

The other thing to look into would be quality leadscrews and nuts for the Z axis.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

OK Well I saw the Sanoglou boards on ebay come form China and I assume the steppers motors. ( I am in Global Sourcing and we have a new China office in Shanghai now) I want to confirm and see if I can get the parts their for less of course. I would suspect so probably 50-70% less

So do you know the part/model of the board, steppers, extruder? Are their upgrades ones that might work? I can find and source them and probably even visit the suppliers.

Pellets, good idea.

PM'd you.

From my past experience working with sourcing things out of China, it is as simple as bringing them what you want and letting them reverse engineer it.

also, +1 on the pellets.  Im sure they just don't understand that there is now a need for small quantities of masterbatch.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

Yes I understand not looking to reverse or open an SD3 shop lol but these parts are probably coming from china directly already I can easily find the supplier and source direct. I saw PCB boards for $10 on ebay so if I am there I might just load up on few spare motors, pcb, etc for my unit and for other as just in case.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

I wouldn't see much point in getting more of the Sanguinololus that the printer already comes with.  If you can find RAMPS boards that are cheap, that would be a good upgrade.  You would need one if you want to add an extruder, and you can also run a nozzle fan from one without messing around with MOSFETs etc.   Sourcing the parts needed to create a DualDoodle upgrade kit would be a good approach.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

That is the info I am looking for, if you have a link or part# info I can start looking at sources,

upgraded PCB
Steeper
Dual extruder.

Now I would consider packaging an upgrade kit if it is a good deal for all parties smile

Re: China Parts To Buy?

+1 for the better Z leadscrew.

All the CNC machines use ball screws which are apparently super accurate but I don't know enough about them to know if they could be adapted.

I think an upgrade kit from you or Solidoodle for a precision z system would be a winner.

would it really be any cheaper to buy boards from china than it would be to just download the schematic from the reprap website and send out and have the board manufactured?

Yes. I've had boards similar to the Sanguinololu quoted at $15 shipped, fully assembled without microcontroller. That's like a quarter of what they go for on eBay.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

So I can probably get them for $6-$8

This is the guy I got a custom leadscrew made from.

Cost me $27 shipped. Although I would probably design mine a little differently.

Re: China Parts To Buy?

To add a second extruder you will need a second hotend, gear, stepper and electronics with a 5th motor driver.  At over $100, RAMPS with drivers makes it an expensive upgrade.  If you can get that sourced much cheaper, it will help that be more affordable.  I don't know what the specs of the extruder stepper are, it's the only model without a sticker and part number.

sorry, that's kind of the point I was making.

if you're going to a wholesaler, then you're thinking of buying pre-made boards either black circuit boards to sell, or fully populated boards?

surely it's cheaper to go to a fab house and get the boards made given that the designs are freely available anyway and cut out the wholesaler.
