Topic: Cleaning Set Filament off Equipment

How do I clean my brass plug/nozzles and coupling when changing in between nozzles. I have followed the instructions by heating up nozzle then turning off heat and slowly turning the nozzle every minute. I now have the nozzle out but there is small bits of residual hard cold filament on my nozzle and coupling making it hard for me to get the nozzle or a different diameter nozzle back in. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I don't have the ability to do this so I can't comment from experience, but there are many threads on this board that mention using "fire" to clean plastic off of metal parts.

The theory is simple, any plastic will completely burn / melt off long before you'd get brass or steel hot enough to be an issue. A propane torch should be more than enough to get the job done.

You should be able to find other filastruder threads that mention "barrel cleaning" that go into actual details.

You can use MEK to dissolve the plastic. That is how I clean the nozzle and barrel from any hardened plastic. But be careful using MEK use protective gloves. In a well ventilated area. People also use acetone to clean but it makes the plastic gummy where as MEK dissolves it.
