Topic: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

Hello all.

Im wondering what my SD2 Pro is worth. Thinking of selling as im building a 2x2x2 machine.

Its been painted in gloss white epoxy paint
V6 extruder upgrade, E3D printed mount/filament feed system and dual extrude fan.
Printed SD2 Mk2 top spool mount
larger from X axis pulley blocks
Buildtak surface + 2 extra new ones
Y axis direct drive upgrade kit with bearings, 8mm rod,  8-5mm adapter, G2 belt pully's and hardware. (Not Installed)
Lots of extra 3D printed parts and spares plus the factory print head parts and hardware.

Super clean and works great....

What do you all think i can get for it?

dont see the direct drive Y-axis. also is that the stock Motherboard running the V6E3d? what power supply? and no lawsey carriages or 'Z' mods. I have the deluxe kits with mine including enclosure and paid over $700 new but they only go for like $250 now since most people want larger build plate also.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

As stated, the Y axis is not installed. I have all the parts for it.
It has the Z mods done, I failed to mention that and i do have the lawsey carriages printed but not installed, I forgot to mention that in my post. I am using the stock motherboard with the V6 extruder, it has the upgraded power supply as well but off the top
of my head i cant remember amps. its been working flawless for months now

Re: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

unfortunately - due to the smaller build volume, it wont be worth all that much, regardless of the upgrades. Most people want bigger, not smaller.

That said, you may get lucky and find someone willing to purchase it for a decent price (cover what you have into it & maybe a little extra), but to the general public... probably not...

I wish you luck.

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1

This may be true but the printrbot simple is one of the more popular units with a mere 4 " build plate. IIRC they have 6" option now.
I am one of those that favors an 8" plate  . But in reality seldom exceed 4 x 4 x 4 .

So an SD 2 is realy big enough for everyday use especially as a first  printer.

I only prefer an 8" so I can mod it to duel extruder and still have min 6x6

Re: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

Only reason im selling is that im building a large 20x20x20 print bed and wont be using the SD2. Its been a great printer and has taught me a lot.. now its time for a big one smile

Thanks for the info, Now need to list it...

Re: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

Pics please if you really build a 20x20x20" printer.  Lots of people talk about it, few accomplish it.  Everything gets bigger, so rods are thicker to avoid sagging, which adds inertia... which makes you need to go slower.  Then the challenge of differential cooling of such big parts must be addressed.  It is certainly possible but there are good reasons it is rarely done.  Let us know how it works out.

As to your original question... you would be lucky to get $250 for it on eBay.  I follow ebay pretty closely for solidoodles and that is about the going rate for an SD2, even with the mods.  You are being hurt by the wood platform, no one really wants that.

Yeah,Iv realized that.. At this point im just going to keep it as it prints pretty darn good now..

As for the larger printer, I have most of the parts ordered and using 3 ball lead screws for the Z and the plate will slide on 4 10mm smooth rods.. It should be good...

Re: What is my upgraded SD2 pro worth?

I'm in the same boat. I'm building a Tevo Tarantula soon, so I'll be putting my scrappy ol' SD2 out to pasture. I have a friend who teaches tech/computer class at a middle school, so I'm hoping he'll take it as a donation to show the kids what 3D printing is.

On a related note, that printer looks sweet! You did a good job of painting the frame. Your mods pretty much mimic mine. When I bought my Solidoodle, I wasn't even really interested in modding it, just making parts for the medical design company I work for. When the jigsaw finally fell apart on me, I was forced to start modding for the sake of keeping my design cycles in line.

In fact, I even printed out some orthopedic component protos that were seen by the heads of a Korean orthopedics company...all with my little SD2.

Lastly, put it up on your local Craigslist before you try Fleabay. Less hoops to jump through.
